hey
i was driving my 1989 daytona C/S (1 of 269 i believe *giant grin*) a week or two ago and the turb desided life wasnt good enough for it and died. i have a 2.2l t2 engine and need a short term replacement until i save up enough money to order a new turbo at christmas time, these are the two im looking at

http://www.********************/shop/...p?cParth=21_32
(if the link doesnt work they are the dual ball berring turbos, $1,600)

in the mean time i can have a mitsu turbo of a 1984 daytona turbo z? t-top, all i have to do is go and pull it off. if i really get enthusiastic i can fix the mazda mx6 (ball joint needs replacement, but i would have to change the whole arm and one of the bolts is stripped, we have both the part to replace it and a spare car for serials, along with 2 spare turbos, one sitting in the trunk), but... its foreign crap!!! would hte mazda turbo work on a daytona easily or is it to much effort to change over

what im wondering is if the turbo will go from the 84 to my 89, or if i need to change the exhaust manifold while im at it for a short time being?

thanx

an 84 daytona should have a log intake and suck through garrett. if so put your compressor housing on that turbo and it should work. also the swingvalve from your turbo should be switched. mitsu turbos came on blow-through cars so i guess that would work too.

i don't think the mazda turbo would fit or be worthwhile. i think its a t2 and unlikely has the chrysler flange on it. but if you have 2....

how to convert the early garrett turbos

http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_con.html\

don't mess with the mazda turbo, unless you like to make a custom manifolds for turbos that are too small : D

you'll want the forged pistons, ported head, manifolds, and the bigger IC too. That will be a serius machine if you get all that stuff : )

I say do all 3, fix the mazda, drive it, while you drive it snag the turbo and head from the '84 and modify the turbo to fit your T2 engine, drive the 'tona in the summer, port the head (its the lower compression one), amass the parts, and use the mazda as your winter beater while you turn the daytona into a monster. If you are charged more than $100 for the head and turbo at the junkyard find another junkyard.

hey
i can one up the junkyard part, my grandparents own a farm and my dad has... i think about 10-14 daytona out there along with a lebaron, lol, so i have no shortage of parts . i think what i will end up doing is going out and fixing the mazda for this summer and winter, while im driving that i will save my money up for the c/s and build it this winter *evil grin* which head were you suggesting i get ported because its a lower compression one? the one on the 89 c/s T2 or the one off the 84 T1 car?

the one on the 84. it should be a "g" or "bathtub" head. the one on your 89 (and 86+) should be a fastburn, normally 782. i think "G" heads are 445 and 287 among others. look on the drivers end on the front of the head (by the t stat) it should have a number there. g heads look a little different.
