Okay, so maybe Quick-Release isn't exactly what I mean. What I want to do is prep the next turbo I put in my 600 so I can get the thing in and out with a minimum of cussing, busted knuckles, effort and antifreeze in my hair. I know they make hi-temp nickel content anti-seize thread compound that should help. Do I want to use stainless steel nuts/bolts or does the heat get to them, too? How about replacing those 15mm turbo mounting hex nuts with ones with 12 points?

I'd like to be able to get the manifolds off the engine w/o pulling the head, too. Any special bolts/nuts other than the 10mm hex heads? Maybe ones with extended heads that are easier to get a wrench on? The old big blocks used long extended exhaust manifold nuts.

How about the water and oil lines? What comes apart quick? (Without using a Sawzall, I mean). If I want to be fooling with different swing valves, trims, etc., I'd like to be able to get that turbo off and on easy. Ideas?? What tips do you experts have? Thanx, Bill

Ive replaced 2 turbos while they were still on the car, and Ive also have done 10+ head gaskets and doing a head gasket is by far easier, and im sure pulling the manifolds will be a bigger pain while on the car on top of the removing the turbo. Theres about a 50-50 chance that an exhaust stud will break, and thats with the head off. If you want to really be able to swap turbos quickly at a later date, your best bet is to pull the head, replace the lines with SS lines from one of our venders and then use a header from TU. The TU header is designed to allow turbo swaps easy. Just my 2 cents. good luck!

Itoktoeatfish - I've yanked about four turbos out of junkyard cars in the last year and I sure know about snapped studs, rounded exhaust nuts, 15mm turbo nuts that are amazingly tight (I cut the open end off of a combination wrench and I use a short jack handle with it as a cheater bar), etc. Cooling and oil lines are easy - that's where the cordless reciprocating saw comes in.

I'm trying to find some tips - like what you mentioned - to install everything so it will come off easy in the future. Bill

when I build up my horizon I'm going to cut out part of the firewall so I can get to it easier, but it probably won't have a dash. My turbos pretty easy to get in and out, the oil line is SS, the bendyness of it lets me put it in and out with the line attached.
