I am looking at buying one of these. It is suposed to support 350 WHP. I am gunning for a 300 FWHP Omni that can run a 12 flat on slicks, and still be autocrossed and street driven without much spool time (I mean I want full boost around 20 psi by 3200 rpmish).

The GT turbo comes:
48 trim wheel, in a .60 AR comp housing, with a 76 trim turbine, in .82 AR housing..Flow is rated at 39 lbs.

Will this turbo be well suited to a 2.2, G head, 89 roller cam, 5 spd, 2.5 madrel exhaust, no cat, 3 BAR, + 40% cal....and a water to air intercooler (bar and plate core).

I think it may be a bit too small

the 60trim version is a bit better and would do "ok" at 20 pounds boost, but its still a little on the small side if you were to go over 20psi boost

The GT2871R 48trim .60a/r would do better at around 20psi but there isnt much breathing room above that

Is that 1st map for the turbo I was looking at? Looks like about 250 HP is where it'd start to become inefficient. Rayhall Turbos claims that it is good to 350 HP. ...hmm

at the top of the map it says what it is, actually the first one is the 60trim so the 48trim would be even worse

According to Chris, you can go larger and still retain crazy quik spoolup.

I'm running the GT2871R with the 56 trim compressor, .63 exhaust. It's in my 89 mini with a fresh 2.5l, ported swirl port head (by myself) & the 88 TBI cam. So far I only have 16psi with a 5th injector & it's great. I had to modify a TU header for the flange & relocate the turbo closer to the firewall so the compressor hsg would clear the intake. The spool up on this turbo is amazing. Feels like a mitsu spool, pulls amazingly hard for 16psi. I really need a tune with the ported head & cam. I had to add the 5th injector to take 6me from 14psi to 16psi with +40's injectors. It pulls the heavy van with 2.70s gears in the a413 with no problem. Consider the fabrication required before purchasing one of these.

I see you went to shop ATP's site
Been looking over there myself, as it's cheaper than TU for true BB.
Let us know what it does with a tune!
+40s and 5th are a bit heavy- what A/F are you averaging?

WOT @ 5900 rpm I have 11.0-11.5:1. I have the fuel pressure cranked down to 30 psi initial. I bought the turbo from Himni racing, cheaper than ATP. I'm gonna try a adjustable gain regulator to add fuel. Funny, you can hear the turbine spinning for 30 seconds or so after I kill the engine from an idle.

i bought my gt30r directly from chris @ tu...
no need for customizing the header and stuff -> chrysler style turbine housing
it has internal wastegate and is kind of a bolt-on!

therefore i had absolutely no problem paying a few bucks more

True, true! We either have time or $$. I rarely have both..
Shadow, did you have a link to that vendor?
Sounds like a smooth turbo still winding down *tells the lady "size DOES matter"*

thanks
