i have the same problem with my car (1987 daytona shelby z) and i 'think' there is a boost limiter on the car, plus with a stock turbo you shouldnt get much more then 14 lbs with it anyways and as far as melting pistons go, i have an after market turbo (super 60 pack turbo, stage 2 bla bla bla) and stock injectors and i havent had any problems with melting pistons and ive been driveing the car for well over a year with my current set up, but maybe the shelby edition has better injectors stock...im not overly fermilliar with the CS. but yea back to your problem:P i would bring out your bible on the car and check for a boost control of some kind,(does it cut right out at 14 lbs and almost sound like the cars completely stalled out and gives you a bit of a jerk?)
