Hi all,

I'm ready for 30psi + of boost these days on my 86 2.2. Just wondering if someone can suggest a boost controller to at least sustain 30psi. The grainger I have has troubles going above 27psi reliably, even with a massively shimmed actuator. The stuff on ebay seems to be 0-30psi which is quite marginal. (alternatively a source of stronger grainger valve springs would work)

Thanks

Turbonetics makes a 0-50 psi MBC. I used a grainger with a stock actuator and I used some heavy springs to help keep the wastegate closed as the backpressure would simply force the flapper open. Iven since went external and its perfect, I still use a grainger on the R/T. I use the Turbonetics on the drag car, which works well.

you can probably go to home depot and get a stronger grainger spring, or get an electronic boost controller that will go that high. I'm not even going to ask what you've done that your engine will take 30 psi, as even asking might make me poor too

Thanks for the tips, quite helpful, I'll post back sometime to report on how I got it to work and how many pistons were left on the road.

Well here it is; I could'nt find a replacement spring, but I had one at home that was a tiny bit less wide and 1/2 as strong, so I put the two together one into the other (they combined nicely), and now I get 30psi at the middle of the grainger! Success...

Accidentally ran it at 35psi but notcied slight detonation. I'm actually leaning out, need to do something about fuel delivery, maxed out on the Paxton regulator.

I'll be OK, I figure my 2-3 year old cast mahles are now effectively forged reshaped and melted gradually

lol, the constant impact over 3 years has forced the crystal grain structure closer together... What kind of fuel are you running? Any idea where you got the spring? That must be one hell of a ride!

I'm running 94 Octane non-Ethanol.

And oh damn, you asked the question I feared... the spring, I have _no clue_ where it came from. It was lying around my parts bin for many years. I was trying to remember where it came from specifically, but can't. I can tell you however that almost fully compressed it put down 260 grams of pressure. As compared to the grainger spring I had which was around 500g (over 1lb)

As long as you find some spring that's wide enough, you can fit it inside the grainger one... but good luck.

(could ahve been a power switch spring from some electronic device, like computer, monitor, stereo, etc.)

Edit: it's one hell of a ride for sure, but I find it low on power on very hot and humid days. I could do with about 600WHP... must get better income
