And by gutless they mean it'll struggle to hit 70mph.

I took everything except the exhaust housing off and plugged the hole where the turbine went. OMG, it was sad. Took almost a mile to reach 50 mph.

I was forced to drive my daytona without a turbo. It was a pig. Thankfully it was a 5 spd, so I could stay in gear til redline. It wouldn't go over 60 MPH.

I was told at the race track 2 or 3 weeks ago, that if I wanted to race my shadow with the turbo 1 motor, I'd have to take the turbo off, replace the exhaust housing with a TBI or carb exhaust, and re-route the intake from the throttlebody with some different piping.....I looked at the guy like he was insane for even sugesting it, and he said "well that would at least get you racing this year..." and I thought... why would I want to race if I'm not even close to competitive?

yes it would be much much slower than a tbi. You've got lower compression and your cam timing is made for a turbo. If you were to swap in a tbi cam, then it would be about as fast as a tbi. Less compression but a better intake system than a tbi, so I think they'd be pretty close. But without running a n/a cam in there, you might as well just leave it parked at home.

As an aside, here is a dyno run I made on a TIII (16V) without any boost. (The intake hose at the TB was disconnected.)

It actually wasnt as bad as I thought!

I am not sure if the 8V electronics will handle a boostless WOT condition the same way, but the TIII didnt mind at all. It kept the engine perfectly fueled.

I would think that is because since there is no boost it would only give enough fuel for a standard N/A WOT fuel mixture.

Even though the computer goes open loop, it still pays attention to boost pressure and adjusts the fuel accordingly up to MAP cutoff.

Yes it can be done - I was in a bind with a similar situation, so I took an old mitsu exhaust housing, milled the cartridge mating face flat, tapped 6 holes, and attached an aluminum disk I made to cover the hole. It worked great until the aluminum melted I had to make another disk out of steel, which worked much better!

Oh, and the car (T2 Lebaron - for sale in the other section), was very slow. It ran perfectly, but felt like an old datsun pickup truck with open headers. lol
