Sounds like your thrust bearing went south.

it will require a standard rebuild. if you have the tools and knowhow to do it yourself, about $70 on ebay.

Chris at TU has mentioned in the past the the other braided SS oil/coolant lines sold by others have a very small ID in them. Because of this, TU sells a different SS line kit that supposedly has a much larger ID. That could be a culprit... but FWD sells the other style and I figure if it was a major issue, they would be replacing them with larger ID as well. Food for thought.

2nd thing I have heard about is the oil filter/restrictor that turbonetics installs on their turbos. Some people have witnessed issues with this, but not quite like what you are having...I think their's was oil smoking...I think. It is a thread here and on T M I think if you search hard enough from about a year ago.

Lastly... I have heard some bad things about turbonetics in the past 2 years. Some crappy turbos have reportedly come out of there.

This is all what I have read in the forums anyways.

in general a thrust bearing failure is a sure sign of not enough oil pressure.

Yeah, and small feed lines for the oil are NOT an issue. Turbo will be happy with not seeing much oil pressure or too much volume.

oil smoking.....um, That would have absolutely nothing to do with a restrictor/filter.........more like an issue if you DONT have one in certain applications.

I have seen no proof of lack of a bov causing thrust bearing failure, nor does it make any sense. the pressure trying to force its way out the compressor from the inside would create a side force on the compressor wheel and possibly cause it to gyrate. This would potentially be hard on the main bearings, but i havent ever even seen a conclusive link there.

Um... use the search feature. What happens if that little restrictor/filter gets partially clogged with debris? Bearings start pooping the bed then comes the oil smoking.

Hi guys got the turbo out today, compressor wheel was completely eaten, i think clearance issues migh have caused it since the car wasnever really used since this month, also note i was using a cone filter and cai.
