does the .63 turbine housing make a difference from the .48 (stock)? if so, how much?

makes a lot of difference in terms of how much air you can flow thats cool vs hot. a .48 can move 17 psi of hot air, but a .63 housing can move a great colume of air at 17psi and the temps probably would be a lot lower

.63 = less exhaust back pressure especially at high rpm flow but slower spool-up

especially good for a 2.5 or a high-rpm 2.2 or as part of a T3/T4

slows spool time a little but flows alot more air....a guy from turboford.net picked up 32 rwhp off switching housings on a pretty mild setup

Here is some interesting and actual experience with folks with 16 valves, many seem to prefer the smaller housing. Got me re-thinkinking my turbo choice for the street:

50trim .48 A/R - SRTforums.com

Even though I will have similar displacement with a 2.5l. I am thinking of first trying out a .48 hot side and a t4 big trim when I go to a 16v hybrid. hmmm

ive ran both on the same motor and there is a noticable difference... more lag but the boost hits so much harder... (that was on a 2.2)... the .63 on a 2.5 spools better... but IMO if your going to run more then 18psi then get the .63 and when the boost hits youll notice the difference...

This might just be me going crazy, but the first say 5psi seem to build much faster with the .48 but from like 14-25psi the .63 has crazy build... so i guess it could be considered low end lag because the engine just doesnt have the air to push it... but it can breathe much better up high...
