2.2 carb header modify for turbo

i have an 84 lebaron convertible that had tbi, then i did it carb, it has 150 compression on each cilinder, but i just dont like how it works and gas mileage is VERY poor, my new plan is to make it intercooled turbo, i will swap it all from an spirit r/t or maybe from a phantom r/t if i find it, i would prefer the 2.2 rather than 2.5. i would like to know if it would be best the stock turbo exhaust manifold or a custom made manifold from a carbed header and some modifying to put it a turbo.

i have other plans for it like a a604 transmission that i already have, also i have the transmission computer, but i think the harness from the spirit wont have the connection for the tranny's computer, i have seen those transmissions computer working not connected to the smec. so maybe it would work just with the sensors. if it does, i would get some new steering wheel with two buttons (up and down) for changing tranny's gears!! =).

and in a far future, i want the transfer and everything to make that tranny AWD. if i can't get the parts from an old minivan, i would have to buy everything from a new paficica at the dealer =S

stock turbo manifold will be easier of course

A604 wont bolt to a 2.2 unfortunately

some people have had failurs turbo'ing a NA motor; I think if you kept the boost down to 7 or so and watched your A/F ratio then you will be OK

but higher boost may melt the non-turbo pistons, or the non-turbo exhaust valves

I DO FOUND A 2.2 CASE A604!!! VERY RARE...
AND, I WILL SWAP THE ENTIRE ENGINE OF THE TURBO INTO MY CAR. SO... about the exhaust modifying?? would it be better to modify the header or to stay with the stock turbo exhaust?? considering labor and performance gain...

depending on your ultimate horsepower goals, a ported stock manifold is what most of us turbo guys use ; you can port it yourself or buy one ported and ceramic coated from one of our vendors e.g. fwdperformance

for higher Hp levels, or custom turbo installs, there are tube manifold headers available from our vendors, they are very nice but expensive; some keep the turbo in the stock location

the other choice is to cut the turbo flange off a stock turbo exh mani and weld it onto the NA mani ; pretty common mod, but obviously you need to have the flange angle & location correct to get the turbo in the right place; and a good welder; and then you will be dealing with custom oil & water supply & feed lines for the turbo, custom air inlet and intercooler plumbing, and custom exh downpipe since the turbo is in a new location...
