I am going to swap my 2.2 turbo on my 1986 Dodge 600 over to manifolds a carb.
Can anyone tell me what all is involved?
What do i need to change along with the turbo?
Do i need to change the distributor?
Manual or electric fuel pump?
I have read somewhere that some of these 2.2 actually came with carbs..is this true?

the reason for doing this is because i am using the engine for a swamp buggy that will be going way back in the forest so i am not wanting a computer etc. etc. etc. just a basic good engine that i can fix if it brakes down in the middle of no mans land...thanks in advance.

I don't believe that you can change these cars over to carb without some type of computer. Even the carb cars have a spark control computer that you can't really circumvent without some serious modification. It is also my opinion that a turbo fuel injected engine can be made much more reliable than a carbed motor. Just run low boost and make sure your wires can't get cut or torn off, use an SMEC or SBEC and the computer can go underwater and still work.

I was just speaking with a guy that uses subaru car engines for ultralight aircrafts. He has explained that getting rid of a computer and replacing the turbo or tbi can be done on any engine as long as the distributor can be loosened and turned.I have no idea what an smec or sbec are..can you explain in more detail. Also i really do not want any sensors etc. to go bad on me when i am way back in the boonies..just too much stuff to go wrong......
thanks

Your conventional V8/V6 with a distributor and a carb has a set of points in the distributor that open and close, making the ignition coil generate a spark. Our distributors have the HEP-hall effect pickup sensor. It generates a pulse for each top dead center that the spark computer/fuel injection computer uses to fire the coil. There is no mechanical/vacuum advance in the distributor like a conventional V8/V6 one, it's all handled by the spark computer. Unless you were to modify the distributor to accept a points style ignition, you will need to use the spark control computer. You could always take extra sensors along with you. HEP's are known to go bad. You'd have to take tools anyway, and the sensors are all small and easy to change.

SMEC - Single Module Engine Controller - 1988 - 1989
SBEC - Single Board Engine Controller - 1990 +

Two of the most common engine controllers for these cars. 1984-1987 use a combination of two modules, one of which is not waterproof (circuit board isn't potted in epoxy), which is why I suggested going with the newer stuff.
