We were taking the stock turbo off of a used replacement engine for my nephews glh. Shaft play doesn't seem too bad, but about a half cup of oil came out of the down pipe & exhaust scroll after we had set it on the ground. First thought is the turbo is no good (Bad seal turbine wheel on the exhaust side) Or could the oil have come from the engine, which has 78k on it according to prior owner? I put red tranny fluid into the oil intake hose & used my mouth to blow into it (while plugging the oil exit hose with my finger). The idea was to see if any of the red fluid bypassed the seal & into the down pipe. Then i woul know it was bad. It probably wasn't enough pressure to see though! Lol!

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, that would be great!

get a hose, a air sprayer and pump up your compressor and plug the exit side and use some sort of watery liquid like acetone and fill it up and pressurize the turbo housing and see what comes out.

But it is prolly a bad seal, just get a rebuild kit and save yourself some trouble.
