machining exhaust housing for bigger wheel??

Ok, I was wondering what exactly has to be done when machining a housing for larger wheel???
is it just as easy as measuring the exducer and opening up to fit the wheel?? or do you have to mess with the radius on the inside as well??
also how much clearance is needed to open up past the wheel??
I have a brand new garret stage 2 exhaust wheel and would like to use it to upgrade from the stage 1 wheel.

LOL.....well im a CNC machinist....so I hope that answers your question!!!
im out of work right now, but im sure i could have someone take care of it for me...shouldnt take more than 15-20 mins to setup and machine!
or I could try to find another job  ....but how would I ever get this damn TD on the road!!! hahaha

I have a .63 and also the .48
turbo is a t3/t04B 54 trim comp wheel, and currently stage 1 exhaust
its going onto a 2.2L.....wish I woulda taken mysteryguy's .62 S2 housing when he had it ahwiles back now!!! maybe i can find a used one, id rather save the .63 S1 still.
im thinking i could use the .48 since its street car, and get the S2 wheel, and open up the wastegate hole. So hopefully it doesnt compromise spool up time and allow for some more top end then a stock .48 S1 housing

Agreed, although, they can be squeezed to just over 300 if your carefull! 
I personaly would NEVER stage a .48 housing, better to clip the wheel. You would be way better off using the .63 with the stage 2, or stage 1/ clipped if your planning on putting down 400whp. If your only going to make 375 or less, just use the .63 with the stock wheel. As long as your 3' swingvalve and on, you'll be fine.

ok kewl good 2 know...i thought i could squeeze out more than 300 with a bigger exhaust wheel and ported wastegate hole....
the compressor housing says T04B on it....ive done the math and it equated to 54 trim. I cant remember the diameters...turbo was originally a 46 trim but someone changed it up, i got it in a .48 housing but now it rests in a .63 and I have all the 3" goodies.
im thinkin ill save the wheel then, and get myself a S50 comp and E housing when some $$ comes around...then use the core from my smashed S60..I have a REAL garret rebuild kit with the 360 thrust bearing

I'm sure you could, but it's not an efficient set-up. The stock wheel in the .63 housing is the fastest spooling 350-375whp set-up your going to find. Without porting the housing, a .48 A/R does not flow enough exhaust to efficiently act apon a larger wheel. (although, I've only experienced this with a stage 3) I tested a stage 3 .48 against a clipped stock wheeled .48 in the same car, no other change. The clipped stocker killer the stage 3. Spooled way faster, ran faster at the track on less boost! Now this was with a 50 trim To4e compresor in a stock housing, which, in itself screams of inefficiency! A larger comp wheel, it the right housing would work better I'm sure, but still a total WOT IMO.

Thats what I was thinking, a stage II wheel is just gonna be a dog in .48 housing cause the scroll is where the restriction is the bigger heavier wheel will just cause it to lose efficiency.
