missing Mitsu turbo parts!

I was just under my 89 mini and found the exhaust leak I thought was the donut. Looks as if there is a clamp missing between the two halves of the turbo. I called Dodge and Napa and neither has a break-down of the Mitsu turbo (or anyother).

Has anyone seen this before? What can I do with it... I'm trying a large (hose) clamp for now. Where can I get parts for it?

That happened to me when I first got my Daytona. I had to use a hose clamp to keep it together.
I posted on the SDML and someone sent me the correct band clamp for free.

I suggest posting on there, or finding a Mitsu powered car at a J-Yard and stealing that one.

SDML? Where/what is that?
After you replaced the clamp.... did you still hear the exhuast leak.. or is that what the clamp is for?

The SDML= Shelby Dodge Mailing List.
www.SDML.org

I didn't have an exhaust leak even when the band clamp was missing, but I could hear the turbo rattling around. When I first got my car, I didn't really know much about these TD's, so I couldn't figure out what was rattling and why my boost didn't build like my GLH's did.

When I got the clamp, the rattling went away and boost was way more responsive.
The clamp just holds the 2 halfs of the turbo together. If it wasn't for the compressor and turbine wheels, your turbo would come apart.
PM me if you have any other questions.

I called it!

Thats a good idea with the clamps... what size did you use? I'm guessing you used two of the metal 'U' channels together. How did it work?

yeah i used 2, 2 1/2 clamps (the clamp part) with long bolts to connect them. It's working pretty good but I sure would like to have the right part

I have a couple of Mitsu cores that have the clamp. If anyone needs one let me know and I can mail you one. Are they any different between 88 and 89? I have both but never compared the clamps.
Thanks
Randy

trooper, I might have one on the way. But it may not be a bad idea to have another (from the sounds of it). Pm me when you can.
