yes i realized after a bit that 12.4 at 4psi was okay..but at first it was alarming. i eventually got the fuel pressure worked out, although some will think low 10's is too rich at 10psi.

i am fairly positive that I torqued the knock sensor correctly since i bought a socket specifically for it and i always look everything up in the factory service manual, but i'll recheck it. im also fairly positive its a new sensor i got from fwdperformance.

remember ive only got 91 octane here. does that seem hopeless?

i know the cam timing and ignition timing are to stock spec unless a tooth was skipped, but i'll check

i have NOT tried adjusting the timing. what is the idea behind this? what are the drawbacks?

OKAY I ADDED THE OCTANE BOOSTER

tank was 3/4 full
added +104 MAXIMUM (thats the brand name), it says it can treat up to 25 gallons, and it can increase octane up to 6 numbers. So my 91 octane pump gas can get boosted to 97.

After pouring in the bottle, I filled the tank up with 91.

Drove about 10 miles.

Boost set to about 10 psi.

At WOT in various gears and rpms on the freeway, I still saw up to 8 degrees of knock on multiple cylinders, and even 14 on cylinder #4.

AFR was in the low to mid 10's.

Its like nothing has changed.

EGT's seemed to stay under 1500F, (highest I saw was about 1450F?), but its hard to do this while driving, plus my EGT gauge has a very slow response rate so I'd have to keep it at WOT for about 10 seconds for it to fully settle, which is hard in traffic.

SO.

What does this all mean? No knock? Should I put together the hearing aid thing?

How do I know that 97 octane is enough to guarantee no detonation? Is that the logic to this test?

Heres the problem folks. My goal is 25 psi. The only upgrades left are an exhaust cutout, 3 bar map, stage 5 computer, and probably the fuel pump. THATS IT. I could have all those parts installed NEXT WEEK. There is nothing keeping me from going to 25 psi except not knowing if I am detonating or not. THIS IS IT. Except for the hearing aid thing, there arent any other tools I can really get to help me figure this out. So either I know its detonating by now or not.

Octane booster is kind of missleading. When it says it will raise the octane by a certain number of points, they are not talking about whole numbers! They are talking 10ths of a whole number(this is considered a point). So...you took 91 and raised it to a maximum of 91.8...possibly 92. They don't tell you that, and it's not common knowledge for the average Joe. It's not to say the stuff doesn't work, and it's not to say it's a bad product, but it IS the truth.

I know you said you don't want to run water/meth injection, but I think your case is the PERFECT situation where it will be useful! Especially if you use meth in the mix!

Knowing you don't want to run that though, I would try the colder plug thing. That is inexpensive(comparitivley) and easily changed. If it works...GREAT. If not, you're not out a lot of money or time.

+1 ^
You would have been better to pour in a couple gallons of 110.

The +104 stuff I bought says it boosts up to 60 "points" which it explains is 6 whole "numbers". Not that that really matters though anyways since who knows is 97 is enough to do anything. So is the bottom line here this test was meaningless?

Okay I'll go find race gas sheesh.

im assuming you mean at 4 psi without the octane booster? i got 2 or 3 degrees MAX retard on only cylinder #4.

thats not really conclusive though is it? if detonation was real it might not happen at 4 psi. if it was false then it might not happen at 4psi either because the engine might be alot quieter at that boost level?
