yah we were trying to figre out how he can push so much more power out of a smaller turbo than me, but never teought of the 20v. we were joking about it one night. he bought the car with a blow motor (it blew the timing belt) he goes
"i still have that old motor in my shed.. i bet you there's at least 17 valves bent."
"AT LEAST!!?? man shut up thats already more than twice the valves i have."
"yeah, and theres still 3 more.."

guys ithink its time for a neon head for me.... lol iwant to swap to a DOHC sooooooo bad.

one thing i noticed though.. his car gets up and moves but its way different than the feeling in my car. in his, he gets on it and the next thing you know, you're doing 75 off a light. my car feels like it pulls WAY harder but im not going as fast. my car def feels faster when sitting inside. but his will beat me... for now....

sometimes i get jealous of his nice car. just DD around here, people might think my car is rice, it rattles a lot, the exhaust sounds like butt till i can afford a nice set-up, the hood doesnt match, my bumpers are rotting off (rear bumper support is now a bumper weight. resting inside the bumper cover). but to avoid that, i make sure i crank local hardcore music or country.

The factory built your car to rev like a diesel. They also put in computers that hurt boost below 4,000 RPM. Exhaust in the old days was really bad. I've gained 4 MPH by removing just the exhaust. But you still don't need to build a 16v for over 400 WHP. And as far as power goes, your not going to get over 300 to the ground on the street. The VW guys aren't getting over 300 to the ground either, everything above that is tire spin on the street. Get the Shadow to at least T2 levels and then run a good cal and exhaust and you'll be in the low 14s one second faster than a 1.8T with 180 HP. My wagon has the GLHS top end, stock 89 type Garret, stock 2 piece and stock IC. Then I added 3" exhaust, just DP and cat and no muffler. 14.5 @ 98 with tire spin and a slipping auto trans. GLHNSLHT2 ran 14.3 @ 98 with more traction in a 87 New Yorker with a near stock T2. It isn't that the car is just slow with a 8v, the older turbos weren't made to run like the new ones. You can add a few changes and make tons of power for a lot less time and money than complicated 16v swaps

we all went out to eat last night and when we were on an open road, we raced a little. from about 30. 3rd gear pulled hard and although he had a jump on me, i stayed right on his bumper after that (well, beside his bumper) so it made me feel good that i did that with only about 4 or 5 psi hahaha cant wait for 15 or eventually 20! hahaha

i do like how inexpensive our cars are tho. his computer was $500, 3" exhaust $700.. etc.. my comp $185 3" for my car around $140 hahaha i love it!

The Omni is a better looking and seemingly more sturdy car than the Rabbits and older Golfs I've come across. But I do like the sleeker look of the Scirocco. If I could squish an Omni down and stretch it out a little, then remove the back doors, that'd be a hot little car.
Sounds like you may want a 87 GLHS then. A sleek, 2 door lower sitting Omni. Unless you reallllllly think a Scirocco looks better than that black car in my sign.

You can not beat the price of turbo dodge cars. That is a big advantage over VW. It sounds like you wish your car looked better. Perhaps you should save up and get a daytona that already has matching fenders and good paint. Then when you decide to get a calibration and free flowing exhaust you can blow away those VWs in style and comfort. I had a daytona a while back that I put tons of work modifying and it was extremely fast. I still did not feel good about the car because the interior was ugly faded reddish color cloth. Since I enjoy working on engines and not swapping interiors I sold the car and bought a different car that had excellent paint and a perfect black leather interior. Now I am having the fun of figuring out how to make it faster!

I love the look of the 87 GLHS cars but I cant stand the dodge omni interior. The scirocco has a much better appearance inside and the seating position can be adjusted so you are sitting very low in the cabin. I used to have a scirocco and never had any problems other than the radiator fan switch failed and would run the battery down. I think that is acceptable reliability for a car with very high miles.

Given the choice of a GLHS or a Scirocco, of course I'd choose the GLHS! Esspecially if it looked as nice as yours The Pope. I'll always be a TD guy. Just because a newer, more advanced car handed me my butt won't change that. But the new GTI is really a different animal from the older VW's. I do like the Scirocco and some of the engineering ideas from that time. They were developed at the same time as our cars and they have the same kind of potential as TD's, so I can't fault them there.

Honestly, I've always been a Daytona fanatic. I know they're heavier and I get all the negatives that go with that, but every time I see one (turbo or not) I get all warm and fuzzy. VW has nothing like it, so they're right out the window there. I'd love to get a GLHS or something as a toy, but I'd want to restore it and such which I don't have the money for. As relatively inexpensive as these cars are, I can barely afford to keep this one going. I don't know how some of you guys work on 3 or 4 at a time.
