i have a BIG front mount intercooler (3 stock cores) with 2.5" piping, but the piping is metal and it gets HOT from the radiator air flow. anyone have any experience with this? issue or non issue? im thinking i should have gone with plastic tubes.

Check the pipes after a hard run, I bet its cool. I think it is a non issue on a street car. If you want, try insulating it

The pipes will get hot, that's why I run the pipe to the intercooler(12x24x4"), then the only pipe left exposed comes out from in front of the shock tower to the 90 degree elbow, which is rubber. Then the intake gets a shot of alky.

the low surface area of the pipes compared to the sheer amount of air that flows through them means that very little heat gets transferred. it would probably not even be possible to measure a temperature difference of the air.

^ +1 dont worry about it ; insignificant heat transfer ; but if youre REALLY concerned about it, SS has a lower thermal conductivity than AL or regular steel
