Hey there everyone. A friend told me that if you use a camshaft from an 88 2.2 TBI that it will give you a HP boost. Is this true? Has anyone done this?

Search around and I think you'll find a lot of stuff on this. I think the '88 2.5 TBI cam had the most duration of the rollers. I put one in my '85 T1 and it's quieter than the slider and seems to be a little stronger in the mid and upper rpm range. That's going by seat of the pants, though. Also, if you have a slider, the roller gives you a bit more power just due to less friction.

DDG- Turbo camshaft & valvetrain

That should help a little.

There's lots of other great info there, too!

I paid $17. for my 88 TBI cam from a J/yard and made more power than my 89 turbo cam. For the price it's worth it. I do have an adjustable cam sprocket on it as well.
