I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to remove the bolts from my exhaust turbine housing so I can rebuild my turbo. I finally go all of them loose (or broke off) but I couldn't get the housing apart from the center section. I put the exhaust side in a vise and started hammering on the intake side of the turbo with a rubber mallet. After a few minutes of getting nowhere, I started hitting the outer edge of the intake side and cracked it. I can't believe the exhaust side is still as stuck as ever. Now what? Anybody got a spare intake housing for a Garrett turbo?

You might want to state if you're looking for a TI or TII Garrett housing.

Finess on these things is a little more important than strength, look at how old this stuff is...
For future reference everything will come apart w/ a torch and perafin wax. THEN crank on the stuff.

I will take a TI or a TII Garrett housing. I already made a flange to convert my TI to TII status. A TII housing would be best, though. Yeah, I should have heated the turbine side up with a torch, but I didn't think about that. I did use heat and penetrating oil on all the bolts to get them loose. It helped a ton. Guess I wasn't thinking.

Meh, not impressed with your butchering.
Post in the parts wated section and you will have plenty of offers.
Also pay real close attention to the way the parts fit and take pics.

>Yeah, I posted in the parts wanted section. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here, too.
>Yeah, I took (broke) the bolt out of the inside of the swing valve hsg.

I might be interested in your T2 cover, overboostperformance if the compressor wheel is ok.

Do you think the compressor wheel is shot if 1 or 2 fins got slightly bent on the tips?

I had good results with PB Blaster, let it sit for a couple hours and it comes right out.

I worked on my turbo a little last night. I found that the compressor housing is not cracked at all. The backplate to the compressor housing is cracked. Also, I took the compressor wheel off the shaft and studied it a little closer. Doesn't appear to be damaged at all. Must have looked at it cross-eyed after I busted the backplate. So that's good news for me. Now, I just need to find a backplate. Any chance someone is going to be selling just the backplate and not the compressor housing?

I upgraded from PB Blaster to Kroil. Kroil is for industrial use, so you have to give the name of the company you work for when you order it. I guess you could make up a name, though. It is about $10 a can but I got a second can free when I ordered one. The other thing I have tried recently is Freeze-off by CRC. It is a penetrating oil that gets cold as you spray it. Seems to do a good job after you heat the area up good and hot. That was the only way I got any of the turbo bolts out without breaking them.

If I run into a stuck one, I do a routine were I heat the area up around the bolt with a torch and then squirt it with Kroil. Then I repeat 2 or 3 more times. It usually works, but not always.

Caaareful, most metals don't do well under extreme temp changes.

I was a little scared about that...but after getting no where for 45 minutes I stopped worrying and did it. Hopefully I don't break anything (more).

Whoohoo! I finally got the stupid exhaust turbine housing off of the center section. It sucked. I had to heat it up 4 or 5 times and spray it down with penetrating fluid. I also pounded on it with a copper pipe extension and a hammer, inbetween heating it. I didn't break anything else (except a little copper fitting), so all I need is the backplate. Here is the damage...
