Making 300hp on a Stock 2.5, is it possible?

Hey guys, im thinkin of ordering a Super 60 .48/.63 from turbonetics(maybe RP) and im wondering what ill need to do to get 300hp?

Is it possible to get 300hp reliably from a stock 2.5? Im pretty sure ur all going to say that the motor wont last under that kind of power, but i thought id see if it was possible.

Head work? Bigger valves and full port or just a port match and clean-up?

Internals? Will the stock internals hold up? Pistons i know could be a problem but i ve seen a couple of cars running stock cast pistons making 300hp.

If anyone could give me soon insight it would help greatly. I have a stock Garret T03 with 8,000kms sitting on my work bench but im a little worried about pushin a stock garret that far

I think with the normal tricks of the trade (g-valve, preloaded wastegate, etc), forged pistons (a must imho), injectors, 3-bar map, and cal maybe take a dremil and take of any casting marks, etc i think it very possible.

I personally get your urbo from RP
I bought mine from turbonetics and Gary's customer service is a lot more reliable and easier to deal with.
While your at it talk to Gary about your setup and a cal.
Trust me it's a lot better getting it right te first time

Is there any standard list of parts to make 300hp on 2.5 for cheap, but reliable?

Ill have to shoot Gary an email and see what he thinks

a general list would be something like this:

a/f gauge, boost gauge, big exhaust, big intercooler

you have the above...you could add

ported exhaust manifold and egt gauge
+40 injectors
3bar map and calibration
super 60 turbo w/ .63 a/r

properly tuned you could get close to 300 hp with that...take a look at jon's 2.2 that they just dyno'd...it's fairly close to what i've listed and he pulled 294hp i believe.

a ported head won't hurt but they can get pricy and you want cheaper.

good luck,

Scott

Mr. Boost (Paul V.) made 315 whp with an auto 2.5 with a T3/T4 and a Porsche 944 IC and LOTSA BOOST! I think it was about 30 psi.

The head was stock.

Ok heres another question, how would i make the motor reliable?
I know u guys keep saying that forged pistons are a must, but i ve seen cars run 300hp on stock cast pistons. How bout rods? I know the crank would hold, even tho its cast. How bout rings?
Anything else i missed?

Yes 300 on cast pistons is possible... But that is 2.2L not 2.5.

Rods and rings will be fine.

A wise person once said it this way:

Powerful. Cheap. Reliable. Choose any two.

The original version actually is.....

Done fast, done cheap, or done right.....pick (2).

Reliable isn't hard...our engine are already there (excluding the T-III).

300hp at the wheels will NOT be cheap or easy. I've run above that level for 3 years now with NO failures to speak of...of course I spent the *long dollar* the first time around, so nothing has broken yet.
