I'm in the middle of a head gasket replacement on my 1987 2.2 turbo 1 (garrett) and I am about ready to put the turbo back in.
I was thinking of tearing it apart to do a thorough cleaning and inspection to make sure nothing goes wrong later. I can sort of reach the impeller on the exhaust side and it doesn't feel loose. Are there alot of gaskets or hard to find parts needed just to tear the housings off for inspection?
I would also like to know if the bearing can be flushed out to make sure there is no debris to haunt me afterwards. The turbo has 150,000 miles and has had oil changes every 3k. I do not want to have to pull the head again if something goes wrong with the turbo after a few miles!
I am planning on replacing both oil feed and return lines but I want to finish the project with the least $ outlay.
