What is a good torquey turbo? I've heard that if you use a turbo, you get more torque. I was planning on looking for a Mitsu 16g or something small, would this create gobs of torque in a neon? the car is to be a daily driver, so i'm not talking large amounts of boost....

Brian

P.S. Thanks for your help guys

So, would the mitsu be a good choice for a T1 Street set-up on a neon, IYO?

HEy ,yeah a mistu turbo has torque and is good to around 18 psi,but do you realize the type of project this would be for your neon? it's not like installing a muffler, your entire engine will be pulled and a ton of other problems will arise,a turbo isn't just a strap on application, just making sure you realize what type of huge undertaking this is,espicially for a daily driver.just my 2 cents, good luck if you wanna try it!

have you seen the turbo kit from hahn's racecraft yet? it's a bolt on kit that works really well on the street, from what i've seen. they have 6 stages of kits, stage 6 being a wild 600 hp intercooled street weapon. they have a lot of exprience too. as a matter of fact, one of the cars with one of their kits on it outran a viper, a fast viper, at the mopar nats a year or two ago. i think he ran like 11.something sec.

Actually, I did my research and I know that it will be a pretty mild setup. I want to boost at about 7 psi, and I was going to find another engine to work with for the project. I'm already also looking for upgraded rods and the like and I know i'll need to fix my oil system to aid the turbo. I want to keep the SOHC because of the sleeper part of the set-up. :O)

Brian

P.S. That's good about the Mitsu, I was hoping it was a good turbo. :O)

P.p.s Thanks for your help...any other things I haven't thought of and help would be more than welcome from you guys..

it would be quite the project.

maybe you should sell your car and get an older turbododge, and have left over money to do mods.

well..I wouold do that..but i'm going to autocross and I just like the way a Neon feels when I drive it. it's responsive and well balanced. I have thought of trying to find another turbo dodge, but they are hard to come by. At this point, I would like to get a turbo dodge, but I find I like the Neon much more than a turbo dodge. so i'll just make one myself. besides, if I get the time and the money, i'll probably make it into a sleeper SRT-4..:O)

Yo turbo dodges are like the easiest cars to come by in the world, just take alook around for a daytona or spirit or even a shadow,a shadow could be perfect for your needs,a neon conversion to turbo would be very difficult, heck a Caravan TBI to turbo is a difficult operation, unless you have a a car to rob parts from .you should go to a used car lot and take a few td's for a test ride and see how you like them! becasue by the time you converted your neon you will have spend upwards of 4,000 dollars, and thats given that you can do all the work yourself.there are a whole lot of parts that go with a turbo conversion espiscaially for a year and model car that has no simialr turbo vehicle, bassically your going to have that vehicle doewn for a very long time to do what you want to do.

OH....yeah...I didn't think of that... And I am kinda parcel to the Shadow body, but it just felt like it was so heavy, but then again, that was a V-6 Shadow...so maybe one with a smaller displaced turbo engine would work just fine....hmm...that's a good idea...hmm...ok....now for the saving up part..:O) Thanks again guys...

That's what I was thinking about doing. Is it a feasible option? How much work would it be? I know it wouldn't be a plug and play affair..:O) But that would definately make it easier for me to make a turbo car out of..:O)

cheap and easy...get a junkyard 2.4l and stock 2.5l turbo rods and pistons and rebuild the motor with that. then toss on the sohc head (for your sleeper part) on the 2.4l and get a t1 garrett. weld a garrett turbo flange on a sohc manifold and bolt it up. do a few little fuel enhancements and such and itll spool fast as crap and make tons of torque. if all those parts will work in harmony. im not sure about all the neon parts fitting together but it should work. www.neons.org should have the proper 2.4l swap info. if you want to do 2.2 or a 2.5l conversion youll need to make a custom front mount adn hack off a part of a TD mount for the pass. mount. the tranny mount is the same i hear. youll need a td tranny (523 for the cable shifter stuff or a 568 as well) there will be some axle fanagling to get it to work but either way youre looking at a decent amount of work which can be fun or a nightmare depending on how you look at it. oh yeah and theres wiring. PM fkatzenb for the axle info. good luck
