Got a problem I thought somebody might help me with. We're "reviving" a 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z that sat stored for almost fifteen years. During that time a mouse decided to make a home on top of the motor and chewed into some of the vacuum lines. The previous owner did some of the work then quit and sold the car and is how I've got a hold of it now. Anyway, the problem I have is with the waste gate / waste gate solenoid. There is a nipple on the waste gate and nothing hooked to it. I also have a line from the waste gate solenoid that's not hooked to anything and the vacuum line diagram shows it hooked to the nipple. Problem is the waste gate line is too small to slide over the nipple and the diagram also shows an orifice which I can't find any information on (the local dealership is no help at all!) and don't know if it's a "reduction" piece to allow two different sizes of hosing. I'm including a link to a picture I took and was hoping someone could either describe how the hook up is or better provide a picture / part information on the orifice in question. Thanks so much for your time!

I am no expert at this and actually quite new, however, I have an 89 Lebaron with a 2.5 and a mitsu turbo. On my set up there is a vacuum hose coming off of the wastegate nipple, that hose goes to a "T" connection, from there, one part of the "T" goes to the wastegate silenoid and the other part of the "T" goes to the nipple on the turbo by the intake. Let me know, not sure if your setup is the same.

Thanks for your responce. I have a stock turbo and really hoping to find someone who's got a stock Daytona 2.2 Turbo II waste gate setup to compare with. Thanks again for your help.

The mitsu turbo he's talking about is stock; the later Turbo I's came with that dinky little thing. You can use a welding tip for a restrictor. I think it should be about .020", IIRC. If you want it to spool quicker, you can ditch the sOlenoid & run a short line from the manifold with a grainger valve before the wastegate actuator. They're pretty cheap & easy to build.

Thats, kind of confusing. Take a look at the vacuum routing sticker and you will see what I am about to tell you.

There are three ports on the solenoid. The bottom (the one by itself) one goes nowhere because it is the bleed(it had a filter on it once upon a time). There are 2 ports at the top. The one that sticks out sideways should be the one leading to the waste-gate can according to the sticker. This is the line that has the orifice in it. The orifice is in there as a sort of buffer. The line sticking straight out the top should be the line to manifold vac/boost.

Here's how it works. As boost increases in the manifold, the computer will control the solenoid to to regulate the boost in the line to the wastegate, which in turns regulates the boost in the manifold in a "Round Robin" sort of way. The orifice is in there to restrict (slow down) the movement of boost into and out of the line to the wastegate. Think of it this way, as the solenoid opens and closes there would be abrupt changes in the line if the orifice was not there.

Sittn said you could get a G-Valve and I agree. It basically removes the solenoid (and computer control) by preventing boost from reaching the wastegate until you have achieved a certain boost level. This allows you to run a higher boost level than stock (within reason) and that will improve your power.

I have an extra one I could sell you if you have paypal. Its brand new.

Oh, and the plastic tubes had rubber ends on them to adapt them to the nipples.

According to DDG this should be your sticker:

Thanks for all the responses. As tempting as it is to do modifications to boost HP, the plan has always been to leave this survivor car as stock as possible. As I mentioned the local Mopar dealer is just no help and I turn to this great board as my resource to help unravel how this car was delivered in 1987. I need to get this orifice piece between the waste gate and waste gate solenoid and would dearly love to see a couple of close up pics of an original Shelby Turbo II waste gate vacuum plumbing. Thanks for all the other replies and if I choose to boost the HP I will refer to all the expert's on this board to help me do it. Any help with a stock setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
