Don't bother reading this just look at the pictures
ok I have a 1986 garrett T3 turbo from a 89 T1 Spirit
I got a steal of a deal on a brand new XSPower turbo, with new external wastegate and a XSPower stainless manifold for a gen 2 mazda rotary.
$200, with it all brand new. I figured that was a good price.

Turbo is a T4, 1.15 hot side, .60 A/R cold side
Exhuast is just huge. lol
so I took the Turbo apart and measured everything on both the T3 and the T4 and swapped the T4 compressor and wheel combined to the T3
the T4 seems to have a better oiling setup than the original T3.
now I just need it balanced at a shop 50 miles from here
but it all bolted up just fine.
I'm Hoping the XSPower compressor wheel stays in one piece.
I know you get what you pay for but haven't seen alot writen on here about the XSPower brand. I noticed the T3 had a gakset on the compressor housing to the backing plate area. and the XSPower T4 had no gasket

the ratio of the two wheels is also waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off to be efficient they should be within 20% of each other

I think he took the compressor side and mated it to the exhaust of his garrett? If not it would never EVER spool.

So you made your own hybrid turbo? That's gutsy, but if it works then kudos to you. Definately gotta see pics of this franken-turbo.

but for what I paid for the T4 and I had the T3 laying around figured it's worth trying, I dunno let me know what you think.

a T3 compressor on the T4's 1.15 A/R Hotside(friggen huge)

The exhaust side on the one turbo looks ginormous. LoL.

The XS compressor housing looks kinda thin-walled to me. Could just be the angle maybe? And it doesn't seem to have a ridge to keep the hose on the outlet, so make sure you clamp that well. Otherwise, looks pretty good. Let us know how it works.

yes the compressor outlet is super thin(about 4mm) and has no lip.

I'm sure it's far from an ideal match.
deffinetly a cheap made turbo(cheap bolts, thin housing ect..)

but this way I get to retain the water cooling and most of the garrett parts.
hopefully it doesn't explode the compressor wheel the first time it boosts and destroy my engine. I'm putting it on a "Test" engine first to see how well it functions or how quick the turbo grenades itself. I'll keep you updated.

AWSOME!!! it looks cool, but im afraid a 2.2 or 2.5 wot turn that T4 turbine undr 5600rpm ha ha! but, having the T2 turbine with the T4 compressor, that would be an interesting ride! fast spool and major jam!!.... untill the little turbine side can release all the exhauts your motors producing. kinda like a mitsu, it has nice jam up to about 50mph, then it just looses efficiancy. yours will probly do somthing similer, but youll still get alot more power up to a higer speed before it cant brethe any more.
i think its cool though and would love to feel the results! ive always thought about that combo.

A really good combo is to put a higher flowing turbine in the stock housing. Or to get the .63 A/R housing. Either one, some more exhaust flow will help. My friend has a T04e(or b?) 50 trim with a stage 3(?) turbine wheel. Runs great.

You can also find cheap real garrett T4 turbos on ebay. I found a V trim, it all goes together really easy. Never ran it, oh well. Good luck!

well the combo is off a bit, The stage 1 size turbine and .48 housing with a 60 trim T04B. Should have a ton of back pressure but should spool ok. Just won't use the T4. What about buying a XSpower hybrid closer to the right size and swap parts. See if the XSpower turbine wheel works with the Garret center section. If the center section will work, then you just need to buy the .63 housing that matches the XS hybrids turbine size. Then your combining a $200 XS turbo to a $150 Turbonetics turbine housing, which would be sweet.

It's a bad idea to use the XS center section. The bearings seem to go pretty quickly on some of them. That is, more than other turbos you could get. The garrett cartridges seem to live forever. That's just my $.02

Just got a Ford Super Duty Intercooler in preperation for this turbo for $75
Total Investment so far. $275
Picked up a couple victim engines for an old carb worth nothing to me.
would it make any difference to run a Automatic or a 5-Speed?
I was planning on swapping in a 523 instead of the auto(stall seemed really low)
