WHAT exactly do I do to tune one as compared to an internal. The one in question is a Delta gate. It has a threaded rod with a lock nut on it in the middle and also a vacuum nipple. Can someone with experience let me know if my figuring is correct. Now I would figure that the threaded rod in the center, which must adjust the spring pressure on the gate, has to be adjusted for you max boost right? Kinda like lengthing the actuator arm of an internal to the point where exhaust pressure lifts the flapper off the seat. Am I on the right track? I'm thinking you loosen the rod all the way out to start, then crank it back in until you reach your max target boost. Then from there you use a pressure source to the vac nipple if you want to have levels of boost control. That's my guess... I'm drilling, can someone let me know if I'm going to hit oil or what???

Well close
the bolt does get screwed in and tightened down the father in the more boost you get.
the nipple is a vac/boost signal line which goes to the manifold
when the pressure form the signal is higher then the pressure form the spring then the wastegate opens
if you want multiple boost pressures then you could use a boost controller of some sort (g-valve, manual , elec.) in the signal line with a solniod and an on/off switch but after all that you might as well stick with a swing gate
you could get a wastegate that has ports on both sides of the diaphram which in my opion would be easier and safer to control

yes
yes
and yes

with the rod all the way out and the vac./boost line hooked up you should zero boost
the more you crank that bolt in the more boost you'll get
if your getting crazy witht the boost you can pull out the bolt and put in a longer one or a stiffer spring BUT make sure you check that the bolt isn't too long that it bottoms out the spring inside

So lets say I'm setting one up on a engine that was originally NA. I would like to start off with the bare minimum setting and work my way up. So do I back the threaded rod all the way out, and connect the vac signal at the same time? Does the rod position dictate the max attainable boost?
