Water Injection?

Has anyone used this from thid board? I just read about it and it sounds kinda cool. I guess it works by spraying a very small mist into the manifold which really cools down the air inside the manifold. It said you could increase 6-8 psi this way. Just wondering if anyone has used or know anyone who has used this method.

I havn't used it on my TD, but i did use water injection on a small block Chevy 400. This was not a performance engine, so I could not offer firsthand experience on power, but what I did get was cleaner spark plugs and combustion chamber, and a slight (barely noticeable) increase in mpg.

Water injection not only cools the intake charge, but the water mist itself will expand in the combustion chamber along with the a/f mixture, supposedly creating more power. The water will help control detonation. The water also helps keep clean the combustion chamber.

I see no real disadvantage it W/I, my experience has been positive.

I spray 30% water and 70% alcohol. It works great. I run Sunuco ultra nd the alchy/water combo at 26psi. Water will not replace a big intercooler, but the but intercooler and water/alchy is the way to go.

I have used mine for a few tanks of gas so far and its been all positive. I get alittle more HP maybe 1-4, but I added 3-4 MPG and am able to crank the boost up atleast 5 more psi to 20 without a problem. Could prob go more but haven't tried it. (no need) I don't trust my stock clutch and tranny with that much boost right now, besides being a log intake. Its the easiest way to intercool it without alot of mods. Car runs cooler, keeps the exhaust and turbo cooler, and the engine internals cleaner, retards detonation, thus adding more life to the engine. Its cheap to build your own so why not try it?

Would you guys mind listing your set-up's for your systems? I'm assuming you built them yourselves.

I actually bought a Spearco unit but there are many designs and DIY's on the net. Just do a search. One of them is in www.thedodgegarage.com .

My setup uses an old windshield washer container to hold the water/alchy. The only space I had left for the container was where the EGR was. A stock turbo fuel pump is dropped into the tank with a fuel line coming out and also a fuel return. Three cold start injectors that used to add gasoline, now add water/alchy. Base pressure is 55psi using a regulator from a Log intake setup. The fuel pump is turned on at 13psi boost, the injectors come on at 16, 18 and 21psi each. I'll take some pictures and add them to the web page soon.

I'd be very interested in seeing pictures! I've now got my wastegate disconnected on my mitsu so without a turbo upgrade there aren't many improvements I could make. One I thought of was to add water/alcohol injection so that I could up my base timing as I'm currently only running 8 degrees. An increse in timing would lead to better performance, correct?
