im getting ready to mount a big volvo intercooler into my shadow. im going to be removing the piece of the ac system infront of the radiator and hope to install it in the space. if any of you guys could suggest how i mount and secure it, it would help. would screwing into the sides or top or bottom of the intercooler damage it? and can i paint it or will that mess up the flow or anything. thanks for your time.

Don't cut open the IC unless you plan on sealing it up real tight. If you put a screw in it - that's just like putting one of the clamps on one of your hoses loose... you will leak boost. And painting it would get rid of some of it's natural heat radiation and it's ability to radiate heat out away from the air inside. The paint would act as an insulator basically.

weld some braces onto the top and bottom of the i/c.

like a 2"x4" of mettal about 1/8" thick, and drill a hole in one end, put a rubber gromit of some sort, and weld the other end to the i/c both bottom and top, then bolt the other end to what ever you can.
