I finally started up my 1987 Daytona today, with its Garret T03 and 1989 blow through intake setup!

While playing with getting the ignition timing set, I noticed that the exhaust was blowing out TONS of blue smoke! Now, I'd made sure the cylinders had a good amount of oil in them for their first startup, but how long does it take to burn off that oil? I ran the engine for about 5-8 minutes, and although there wasn't as much blue smoke at the end, there was still much more than I thought there should be (none).

I checked out this turbo before I put it in, and although the bearings were a bit loose they weren't too bad. Zero in-and-out shaft play.

This turbo had sat for 6 months in a car with a bad engine before I got it, could it just be that the seals need to get working again?

Now would be a BAD time to have to swap the turbo out!

Apparently turbo seals DO dry out or stop sealing somehow after they sit for a while. Because after a few days of it dripping oil while testing various things on the motor (about 1 hour actual running time), it stopped dripping oil and smoking and has been good ever since.

My son replaced the turbo on his T1 this week (old one had a blown oil seal). It took a lot longer than 10 minutes to clear out all the old oil. It's fine now. Mebbe the same deal with yours?
