Here is what I worked on last night. I finally mounted my intercooler to my front bumper. I'm going to paint the brackets and replace the fasteners with stainless fasteners.

To get more air to the intercooler, I cut the posts out of the "mouth" of my airdam. I filled the two holes in the airdam with rubber bumper material and smoothed it out with body filler. There were also two posts in the aluminum bumper that I cut out.

What type of intercooler is that? Where are the hoses routed?

It is a Spearco with custom end tanks from Relentless Performance. I am going to make my own custom intercooler pipes from mandrel bends. I modified a Shelby Z radiator and intercooler brackets to fit in this car. The space where the factory intercooler would be is where I'm going to run the intercooler pipes.

Nice! I cannot wait to see the pics! I will consider that on the GTS once the stock IC needs upgraded. I'll take "NO Cutting" for $500 please Alex! :big grin:

Yeah, I really didn't want to cut on the car too much. I also didn't want tons of intercooler piping running between the valve cover and radiator. L-bodies don't have enough room in there anyway.

Did anyone else notice that his directional l/f tire is mounted backwards?

Junk tires. They are only on the car to roll it around. I'll be getting new ones before it hits the road.

What are the dimensions of the core and overall size including end tanks? Are you routing the pipes between the radiatator and front end? The L-bodies are definately a tight fit for FMIC's, I've been trying to work out a solution for my 87 GLHS that would include welding two stock cores together but I don't want to route through the engine compartment. If possible, I'd like to see some pics when you get it all done. So far it looks pretty clean.

Glad to hear it. I hate it when people come in with directional tires mounted backwards.

-There is much more room in the 2 door L-body than in the 4 door.
-The core is 3.5"x7.75"x24".
-The end tanks are 2.25"x9.25" including the inlet/outlet.
-The ends of the mounting tabs are 10" apart.
-You need a space about 28.5"x10" to mount the intercooler.
-I have about 1/4" between the bumper and the intercooler and about 1" between the intercooler and the radiator support.

I am going to run my intercooler piping in front of the radiator support. There is plenty of room between the hood latch and the top of the intercooler. I just don't want intercooler piping snaking over the alternator, distributor, radiator hose, etc. I will run mine between the radiator and the radiator support on the driver's side.

Yes, for those who might wondering....Kevin's garage IS on the side of I-24! :big grin:

BTW, nice 'cooler and sweet work on the bumper cover. "thumbs up I always thought about taking the "beam" out of the center of the bumper cover on my '88 Shelby Z.

Kevin,

Is that cooler a "off the shelf" item from Speaco with Gary's magic touch applied to the end tanks? A unit like that appears to fit in the open nose of the GTS. With the 2.5 a good cooler is a benefit and you've now got me thinking.... :big grin:

Yes, it's an off the shelf Spearco core with Gary's endtanks. Just get your measuring tape out. :big grin:
