Question Turbo Van Sensor Type

What is the air sensor type on the turbo minivans? The van must meassure the incoming air is some form and I want to know whether it is one of these types of sensors.

1. Hot Wire sensor (all nissan's have these)
2. Flap sensor (88-91 rx7's and such)
3. Pressure sensor (all honda's have these)
4. Karman (like a Mitsubishi Eclipse)

I may be way off and it might not be any of these. Any help would be great! Thanks!

They have no inlet air temp sensor that I am aware of.

This is not for temerature but rather for volume of air. The ecu must know how much fuel to put in based on how much air comes in. I need to know how and in what form it measures the volume of air coming in. Thus the sensor type will tell me that.

They have a MAP sensor system...........no mass air meter.

The MAP sensor is mounted on the fire wall towards the passengers side.

From what i know a map sensor is just a pressure air meter. I am going to install an apexi s-afc to trick the ecu into thinking there is more or less air so it will put more or less fuel in. This can also compinsate for bigger injectors. I want to use this method because I can work with the van's knock sensor and determine the most amount of power with the least amount of knock. I think the map works by measuring the vacume and boost to determine how much air is coming in. If this is not the case then how does it meter the air? Thanks for all you help. This is a complicated procedure but if it works it will provide us with a piggy back fuel computer so we can fine tune the car. Plus you can go up to 50% bigger injectors without changing anything else.

This is correct

The computer then supplies the correct amount of fuel as determined by some set tables.Coolant temp and TPS also effect the final fueling for a determined map pressure.

Let us know how this works out!

Ok, it looks like this has a good chance at working. I have the s-afc and will get it installed later this week. I am going to set up the s-afc to work with a pressure. The s-afc will also read knock from the knock sensor so I should be able to see and change fuel amounts with one device. Thanks for you help!!!!

Mopar turbo's are all "Speed density" systems, very primative
by todays standard but cool as hell in early 80's.
Map sensor is all that lies on flow/volume side of computer,
all the little electrical sensors are backup for fixed table to
tune fuel/spark.

IF you get this S-Vafc hooked up and running i definately, would love to see the directions on how you did it,not many people hook up electronics to their vans, heck i'm still working on finding wires for my turbo timer. here's a deal if you get detailed insructions on how to hook that baby up and get every thing working,i'll send you 5 dollars in the mail. thats my deal if it works and everything goes as planned, this would be very sweet if in fact it does work, keep us posted ,hopefully i'll be sending away 5 bucks"thumbs up

Here is what I will do. I will hook it up and see if it works right and take pictures and make a tech on it. Then i will give it to you or anyone who asks in hopes of making all vans just that much faster. I drive around the country a lot so maybe me and mini could stop by one day. The only problem i see left is how to get traction :-(. I have only owned awd dsm's.

Slicks,LSD (of some sort)Phantom Grip,i think alabamaman has some sort of diff pin thats stronger than heck, and a two stage boost control to leave off the line at a point to where you don't spin then flip to full boost.some ideas, but a tech would be incredible if of course it works.

Any clue how hard it would be to pull the awd system out of the awd caravans and install it in mine? Will and awd tranny with transfercase bolt up to the 2.5 turbo?

i think that some people have discussed trying this before, and i'm definately not quite sure on the specifics, but the AWD was only availible on the V6 versions, namely the 3.3 with the long wheel base. so i don't know if it's work or not, most likely not, also i've heard that the AWD system in the vans was pretty weak and unrealiable. so maybe you can research it or something but it might be more work that its worth. the fastest Turbo Dodge runs 10.41 and it still has FWD,just a thought.
