Hi,
I can hear my turbo spool but It feels like it barely gets any boost at all.I had thought that it was just slow but I drove a friends stock daytona the other day and I was blown away .You can really feel it boost.I have a rebuilt 2.2 turbo in a 87 lebaron convertable.I was thinking that it may be the actuator letting the exhaust get past the blades on the turbo.
I have checked all of my vac lines .If I disconnect the vacume line to the waste gate I can feel a little more boost if I let the motor scream then it hits cut out.But its still nothing like my friends daytona.

Thanks for your help.

If you disconnect the actuator arm, you should have no boost.

Depending on the size of the turbo, he might get boost.

I left the wg flapping in the breeze on a 2.2/mitsu, and it got a few psi out of it towards higher rpms.

First off.. do you have a boost guage? If not, get one. See where your boost actually is.. perhaps it is boosting but there is a prob somewhere else(ignition, fuel) whatever.. gotta think of other stuff too. Check all over for vacuum leaks/broken lines cause you cant have your boost going out into thin air! (also check your PCV valve to make sure its shutting during boost it wont make a massive amount of difference but some. Just got to seal up all the leaks before making your turbo work harder and creating more unwanted heat. I'm gussing your not intercooling, is your friends daytona intercooled? I/C'ed = More power at the same bost level.

If everything checks out then we can assume at least two things. The actuator can is weak or your solenoid valve isnt working right or isnt being made to work right. Anyways... gotta go.. Get a boos guage and find out some facts.

How would you find out a cat is clogged?

My car when I just start it up if I move it before it warms up a little bit I get a smell... sortof like exhaust but sortof not... Very hard to explain.

But if I let it sit and warm up a little bit I get no smell.

a boost guage is a must in this situation, you need to know what psi you are getting to. if it is reaching the right limit then you got other problems. one way to rule out your wastegate is to simply umplug the vacuum line that goes to the can. BUT BEWARE if your wastegate is at fault then doing this will shoot your boost way higher than is even close to being safe. so once you feel that it's stronger, let off. if this does not solve the problem then you must look else where for your lost boost. possibly as in a leak
