So I have the head off right now to do a gasket change (someone put a felpro in there) and we got to thinking about that mitsubishi turbo, now would be a great time to swap it for a garrett.

Or, we could put a larger compressor wheel (housing maybe) from a 16g mitsubishi turbo and have a big, cheap turbo. I was wondering if this has been done before with results?

I've never heard of anyone trying this before and thought it might be a cheap way to get out of the mitsu turbo suckiness.

i tried to build something like that out of TE04 Mitsu 13c and TD05 14b Mitsu but sizes of wheels/housings are different so I decided not to fuk with it and just install the DSM intercooler in place of radiator with some GOOD piping. I think TE04 Mitsu flows around 360 cfm at 15psi which, intercooled with intercooler sprayer, will produce somewhere around healthy 200 horses.
The smallest upgrade i would consider would be turbo flowing at least 500 cfm at 15psi
keep us posted bro

are our mitsu turbos 13c units? someone told me once that it was a 9b. Anyway, I think the exhaust turbines on all mitsu turbos up to the 16g are the same, so you could probably just take the compressor half of a bigger unit and clamp it on the exhaust housing of our cars. I might just try it if I get the time

when I broke my #1 piston on my 2.5l I pulled the head changed the gasket threw a garret on it coated the pistons and ran 110 oct race fuel @ about 18 psi . That made a huge difference.

The later TII garrets will bolt up, but the coolant lines are different.

I'd look in the for sale section for a garret.

Another thing I discovered replacing my Mitsu with an earlier Garret, the exhaust bolts won't line up. If you find a later one with the 2.5" swingvalve, it might be different, but my holes were probably 3/8" off on each side.

OK....so since I'm getting my Garrett with no swing valve, and I'm adding a 3" SV I shouldn't have problems, right?

Hard to say. Send me the swingvalve and downpipe, and I'll test them for you!
