From what I've seen, it depends largely on two things: which car (some have a lot more room to work than others) and how bad the bolts are frozen. My son's Dodge 600 had lots of room, but the exhaust manifold bolts were impossible to remove on the car.

from my personal experience...it's a royal pain in the ass. Had to do it today...but if you're gonna give it a try...pull the passenger side axel/half shaft...it will make it easier...and try to get the exhaust out of the way.

good luck

I did it yesterday...and it was hard, but not as bad I as I thought it would be.
I did take me 10 hours+...but I could do it faster if I had to do it again. Although the lines were the hardest part for me...the lines were sort of old and didnt thread the best so \ it made it a little harder but it worked. NO MORE SMOKE!

I couldnt imagine doing it on an l-body though

Thanks

holy **** 10+hours. when my turbo went south (way south) it only took me about 1 hr to pull the head. and it was the first time i had done anything of the sort. if i would have had everything to put it back together already I could have had it back together and running in probably 3-4hrs for sure. why didn't you just pull the head

Well it would have been shorter but I had several problems gettting the lines swapped from turbo to turbo without breaking anything.
I just couldnt bear to pull the head again right now. I had it off a few weeks ago, and even though this took way longer, it was a new job, instead of the old "head pull" I have become so fond of

Anyway, it wasnt all bad, and it only cost me the 50$ for the turbo and it seems to work well so...but next time I will probabaly just pull the head. I'll try anything once, well almost anything:big grin:
