master cylinder, rear trans mount under the frame, crank pulley, water pump his the frame way before teh clutch components clear the bellhousing if leaving trans in car.

i took all my 2.2's out the top, last year i pulled the motor outta my son's glhs, hanging in front of the engine stand 35 minutes after i set the lift. left the trans in the car, pulled it after the engine was out and the decision was made to upgrade to a 555.

I've done all my motor or motor/trans pulls from the top. Never thought about going out the bottom since I was used to old, rear-wheel drive mopars. I did my first bottom pull motor last year on an '04 Stratus with the 2.4 after I tried and failed at a top pull. Since that one, I've thought about trying it the next time i pull a motor on one of my cars.

IDK how you guys are getting motors out the top w/ trans or even ones with manual trans leaving the trans in the car. I don't have enough room between the frame and front of the motor to clear the clutch assembly. I've tried numerous times and unless I unbolt the trans, remove the shafts and slide the trans toward the driver wheel 4" I can't get the pressure plate to clear the bellhousings. HTF are you doing this?

When I watched it done on a honda you lift the whole thing up as high as you can then lower the back (with the cherry picker) and pull it up out at an angle.. it's a scary job for someone doing it by themselves..

its tricky but its possable you have to take the trans mount off and everything off front and slid the the trans under the drivers fraim rail and pull the motor up past the frame rail and then slide trans out from the drivers side rail and go on up and out, lol i have done it both ways and the top is easyer for me,

if you're going thru all that, why not just drop it all on the floor. it would be sooooooo much easier to line up the clutch with both on the floor.

I just did my race car out the bottom. I'd ONLY take a motor out the top if it has an automatic.

seems those that insist on taking them out the top only relate to old school RWD technology.

I had the T1/525 out of my Omni in about 10 mins after I hooked the hoist to it. When I did the clutch in my Z I left the 555 in the car and pulled the motor out the top. Again only about 10 mins to get it out the car. In both cases I remove the front motor mount completely, and in the case of the Z I removed the rear bobble strut and bracket altogether. For the L-body I removed the radiatior, and on both I took off the crank pulley, it likes to hit the framerail. An engine leveler makes it a lot easier as you can change the angle of the motor so the pressure plate clears the bellhousing. When going back in I find a floor jack under the trans makes it MUCH easier to line up the trans witht he motor
