Lightbulb Maxium PSI to run.

I was wondering if any of you know what the maxium psi for the 2.2 turbo charged engine would be. Just image a 42 psi turbo on that engine. I was thinking the maxium psi would be 30 for the stock engine. If somthing was to go wrong with engine what do you think would go wrong first? I dont know if the block is not stong enough or what.

Well tell me what you think, this seems like a really interesting question.

I wouldnt go over 18 w/ a T1 even though it's been done you will snap the small end of the rod like I did on my old Tona. Dont go over 12psi w/o an intercooler

Depending on the year, the stock short block can handle between 18-30psi, depending on the year of the short block and your setup. The 87-88 T1 motors have light rods that *might* fail between 12-18psi All of the intercooled T2 and T4 motors should easily handle 20-25psi with the proper fuel, intercooling, and timing. Now for 30psi, I would reccomend either a set of aftermarket forged pistons or maybe a stock set of R/T T3 pistons. It all depends on your setup.... some people have run 30psi on a stock 2.2L short block... but others will blow them up at 16psi. It all depends on your setup.

Depends on year of block and internals, this is too general of a question.

what about a je piston motor w/ billet rods and a forged crank in a 89 common block.think it will handle 42+psi(intercooled of course)

i dont knwo if the head will really flow enought for that much pressure, or am i wrong? I know with the log intake boost started stacking up after like 12 psi or sumtin didnt it? wont the 8v head and the blowthrough intake have some sort of limits for flow? and of coarse theres always someone out there that can make and engine handle anything you through at it.

how much boost could a 2.2 t1 in a 87 daytona handle? i was going to do like 12psi after i get it, then i was going to intercool it and upgrade the fuel system and try to get between 18-20psi with a fwd performance logic. does it have a log intake on it?

Yes, the 87 T1 engine should have the log intake I know people have run 15psi with an alcohol/water injection system and no intercooler. Just make sure your fuel system is clean and in working condition. Otherwise, 12-13psi with a grainger valve should be no problem at all. Just be sure to moniter air fuel ratios. I have an entire folder of "engine failure pics", many of which were due to the S60 computer/swirl head combo and others due to a lean condition at around 16psi.

hah, well the thing is, it's not about the boost, its how the engine uses it. 18 or 30 or 42 psi is piddly **** in the grand scheme of the combustion pressures the engine actually experiences. what really determines how much boost an engine can take is how well it utilizes the boost. if you have a stock ghead with stock manifolds and a ****ty intercooler and ****ed up cam timing and are only making 350 hp at 42 psi of boost, sure, it could handle it. if you have a good flowing efficient top end like a hybrid conversion or t3 and would probably make 700 hp on 42 psi, no it cant take it.

thats why it depends so much on the details of your setup. assuming you had the ability to properly take advantage of that amount of boost, i dont think a near stock bottom end could handle it.

has anyone broke the 600 hp mark yet in a 2.2? do you think its possible to make 600 hp and build a bottom end out of one of these motors to hold it.something to shoot for.
