I just bought a 86 SC that has a brand new Garrett T3 .48 with the quick spool option from TU. This was a big selling point of the car. But I realize a stock style turbo has it's hp limitations, and my goals excedd those.
I would like 320 at the wheels eventually, but means of a G-Headed 2.5, 3"exhaust, 255lph with +40s and big ol IC. Do I try to sell this turbo while it's still new and get one that will meet my eventual goals now?
If so, how much can I get form my T3, and what turbo should I be loooking at for my goals?
Keep in mind 2 things:
TIGHT BUDGET
LITTLE TURBO KNOWLEDGE!
If I left out any info, please let me know!
Thanks guys!

youll need a calibration or some kind of engine management and yes a bigger turbo. youll max the stocker out at around 270 whp. youll also need a commonblock (debated by some), t2 rods, and custom forged pistons for the 2.5. i assume its a 2.2 right now? if its still a stock sc (mostly) youll need a better tranny than a 525. good luck.

sorry, my post wasn't very clear. It is i getting a commonblock 2.5 and TII rods. I'll try my luck with the cast pistons for a while. Of course a cal will be in order. I'm thinking a T3/T04E huybrid witha 50 trim. What would my turbo be worth it has 0 miles, and maybe 10 minutes of idle time on it. It's a TU unit!

I will be going with a 50 trim when I go to a hybrid in the shadow. Although I have no personal experience with it on our cars.

ok... then youll be fine for a while unless you get crazy!

yeah the 50 trim is a nice all around turbo. some have said nice things about the super 50 as well.

your turbo is worth what the price of a pretty much brand new turbo is selling for minus a little if you sell it to your turbododge buddies! Hehehehehe

Does this turbo have the "not Dodge" bolt flange. If it is non dodge, what are the total specs and what kind of power can it produce?
My TIII is maxed out at 300 crank HP and would like more but I still want driveability,

Here is the TIII turbo completelt maxxed out on a 16V.

I ran it with no boost control, the wastegate arm ridiculously tight, and a vacuum cannister with 20 in Hg on the wastegate nipple!

It would boost up to about 25 psi, then drop off as can be seen in the plot.

There not really much difference between the Dodge T1, T2 and T3 Garrett turbos.

Is that crank or wheel HP. My wastegate is locked with a vacuum pump and holds 29 psi solid at WOT. Nice figures, :big grin:

Its is whp.

The turbo will not hold 29 psi on a 16V car because the flow is so much higher through the head.

The wheels in the Garett turbo used in the T1 cars are the same as those in T2 cars which are **almost** the same as those in the Garett turbo used in the T3 Dodges. The only difference in the T3 cars is a very very slightly larger compressor wheel.

if you are asking about the super 50 or the 50 trim.. ask larry. i believe he has run both.
