I am going to get my T2 Garrett rebuilt here very soon and was wondering what would be the best rebuild for the money? I already have the Stage 2 cam kit from FWD, 3 bar map, 3" exhaust, Super 60 cal, 255 Walbro and T2 rad/intercooler. With the rebuild I would like to make the most amount of power but still maintain some sort of relaibilty. Thanks for any info.

Stock rebuild unless you plan to make big power (over 300 BHP or 260 WHP). If so ditch the stocker and go with a hybrid

That's close to what I would like but I would really like to get as close to or more than 300HP. What type of boost can the stock T2 handle without sacrificing reliability? I don't have the money for a hybrid now so I guess the old T2 will just have to do. Thanks for your help.

I believe that Turbonetcs makes an upgraded center section for for the stock T03 Garrett, here, upgrade. Now I have heard some people talk trash about turbonetcs turbocharger units, but it sounds like mostly shoddy assembly or improper use/abuse. Most towns have a local desiel shop that can install and ballance the center section for a reasonable price. Good Luck.

Speaking of the devil, has anyone here used the Turbonetics upgrade centersection?

Heh, I just found them like 5 min ago, posted a topic on it, Thanks though. I'll give him a call, I think I have an old Garrett with a blown center section, will he take that as a core?

Yeah, as long as you don't mind it having the same outter sections. ie, he won't send you a T2 garrett back if you send in a T1.

I believe the stock turbo is efficient until about 22 PSI.

Thanks for the replies, I was planning on running around 15 psi most of the time so I guess I should be alright in that range. I just don't want to spend a lot of money right now so I guess I will have to call Chris and have another conversation with him about the next level and how much it's going to set me back. Thanks again.

Like I said the stock turbo is good to about 300 crank HP. 15 PSI is probably only going to get you about 250 give or take, depends on what IC/exhaust/ETC you go with.
If you want 300 HP with the stock turbo, do this-
stage 5 cal from FWD-P/3 bar MAP/+40's
20-22 PSI boost with a grainger
ported exhaust manifold
full 3'' exhaust no cat with atleast 2.5'' swingvalve
twin stock IC, triple would be better. Spearco would be best of course.

You might to do some other little stuff, like a underdrive pulley and a cold air intake just to help out with your numbers. The turbine housing will be the cork in the system after all those mods are done. But in the mean time you'll have one fast, quick spooling street car.

The super 60 computer is not that great. It actually wasn't meant for the street, more for the track. So you already have the 3'' exhaust, 3 bar map, and +40 injectors. Next step I'd say is an upgraded IC.

I knew that was going to have to come before long. Since I have the exhaust manifold off now I guess I should go ahead and port that. How hard is that to do yourself or should I have someone do it? I knew the Super 60 was going to be a problem and figured that in the future I would have to replace that but at the time it was a decent price and I just didn't have the money for the Stage 5. I have the 2.5" SV and the exhaust with a cat but without muffler. I still have the filler pipe to go in the cats spot but didnt think it would be to bad without the muffler.
Stupid question but I am still new to the turbo field...Can you change turbine housings and still retain the T2 turbo components or would that defeat the purpose of changing the housing? I would love to go to a hybrid but money, time and my wife don't always let me accomplish those things.
Thanks for your help DTNA, It's nice to get info that helps. Beware though, I may have more already asked questions to throw out there.

Yeah you can put on the .63 housing, bolts right on the turbo. Only 2 problems, it's expensive and the bolts are usually too rusted to get them out.

I wouldn't worry about going to the bigger turbine housing, and keeping the stock compressor. Just wait until you can afford the hybrid.

I've already started the planning for next years projects, head work and maybe boring .20 over while I'm at it. This years goal was only to get the motor complete thus far and start with the bigger power add on's next summer. I guess the hybrid and the bigger intercooler will have to be at the top of the list. I know a guy that has a T2 motor that I may be purchasing anyway so I can swap the internals to my motor. So there are plenty of plans just waiting for the right opportunity to get them done. Thanks again
