Just how small is the Mitsu turbo? I saw one guy experimenting with 2 mitsu's on his 2.2/2.5! The reason I ask is, my friend wants to use one to build a custom set up for his car. I think he's got a Toyota with a 1.6 or 1.8L engine. I figure the turbo is way too big for his set up (mostly street, some drag), and he says it's just fine. How small of a motor could this turbo work for? Is there a formula for this kind of thing? Thanks!

A mitsu will be great for his application. It's really only good for anything less 2 liters, even though Chrysler put them on 2.5's. The turbine housing is SO restrictive even on a 2.2, they just choke the motor out. Also, if you have any kind of good flowing exhaust, the wastegate does not flow enough to maintain a constant boost level and you will get boost creep.

One bad thing though, he's gonna have to look for a chrysler flange exhuast manifold. Chrysler turbos do not use a standard T3 flange like most people think they do. 1 bolt is off to the side. This means he's gonna need to find a chrysler flange and have it welded up to his manifold.

Agreed, the mitsu would rock on a 1.6L engine, can you say wheeeeee!

Hey turbovanman, I like that animated picture on the left side of your posts!

I need something like that in real life.

And yes, a Mitsu turbo should be just about right for a smaller engine.
