Bought a dsm bov, but I don't know if I need to modify it or just leave it stock. I need to know how much psi these will take before they start leaking boost.

Both of mine blow off at 14psi unmodified. Others say 17.

The 1G metal bov is good for 17psi when crushed

The 2G plastic bov is good for 14-15psi

The 2G is fine until ATLEAST 16 PSI, I'm running it right now on that much, and plan to more soon just to see what it will do. It's not as crappy as people think they are, they can hold just as much as the 1G (if not more) but cannot be modded to handle anymore.
B.auto have you ever run a 2G?

The two 2g's I used were only good until 13.5 - 14 psi. This seems to be the most popular number for the 2g's - and this I've also seen documented. I'm sure there's flukes, I'm also sure some boost gauges lie. I believe this limit is intentional, not a side effect of cheaper production - it's built-in, free overboost protection that I'm sure was targeted for 14psi. 16-17 psi on stock fuel system on those cars seems to be the max - so a 2psi difference seems like a good and intentional margin.

Why upgrade:

The stock bypass valve in the 2g's is a very weak. The result is that it leaks at boost levels above about 12 psi. The fix then, obviously, is to install a BOV that doesn't leak until higher boost levels. If you don't, anything you do to increase boost will be fruitless. You even run the risk of damaging your turbo by stressing it trying to get higher boost.

Actually my boost gauge read light, I was hitting overboost at 13 PSI on the gauge. I intalled a 4.7V diode on the MAP sensor, and ran 14 PSI on the gauge (16 PSI actual). It was a crappy Sun-pro gauge anyway, I now have an Isspro gauge. So like I said my 2G BOV is handling 16 PSI problem free. And no it's not overboost protection, the turbo throws much more air than the BOV can vent when it's fully spooled and will not prevent overboost. I know this because I used a stock T1 BOV from a daytona Auto car, it leaked at 8 PSI (it was no good, bad diaphram) yet I still could hit overboost. All it will do is overspin the turbo.

My modded 1G holds 29 psi, no problem! but unmodded, around 16-18 psi they leak, at least mine did.

12 PSI max, plus it doesn't flow very well. Remember it was designed for the mitsu T1 cars which doesn't push near as much CFM as the garret's.
