I'm gonna vote on the cat. Once had that happen on my Mustang and it did exactly what you are saying...

One place that you could also check for continuity would be the fuel pump. if it's boging down when you have the pedal to the floor but when you feather the gas it's alright, that happened to me... turned out my fuel pump died about a week later.

i would vote for the exhaust.i had an 89 shelby daytona,it wouldn,t bog down but forget about power.it was a combination of the cat. and the muffler, replaced both and she worked awsome.i would try that and keep your fingers crossed.

if your hearing knocking, you might not be running the right octane fuel, too lean or your exhaust is being restricted. if your seeing smoking from between the intake and block, check your intake gasket, it could be leaking your boost away when the engine heats up. if you can find the problem, take out the engine and check everything over. it takes a long time, but you might be better off...

hook up an external pressure gauge to the feed line to your fuel rail (I use a generic "T" and brass fittings from Pep boys and a cheapo oil pressure gauge from same place) if your fuel pressure drops while your having a problem then you most likely have a bad pump. Usually they get noisy before they go out but not always. Once they go your car will not start at all due to the pump locking up. Ive had one lockup then free itself and i drove a day then it went out for good.

I don't know if this will help but I have removed 2 cat. converts from 2 seperate vehicles because of lack of power and excessive heat buildup. the 1st converter would glow in the dark, the 2nd under normal running was fine until you stood on it, then the broken ceramics would get pushed into the exhaust end of the convert. this was found out upon removal of the converter, with an flash light shining in the exhaust end you could see the broken pieces and how they had been fitting into the end of the converter.
