Nothing spools better than a stock turbo. Open up the exhaust, that will reduce lag.

Mike is 100% right on. I dont think a 3" exhaust will fit under an omni, but I am positive that a 2 1/2" will. If you delete the cat, use a high flow muffler, I assure you, it will spool instantly the second you nail the throttle.

of course a 3" fit's under an L-body.

Yeah you won't be worried about lag with a stock turbo and an open exhaust

I have heard it has issues going over the rear axle. I know it fits the Daytona, I have it on mine. A omni with a big valve head, hybrid turbo would be a blast to drive.

Agreed on the exhaust - that will help the most.

Something like this helps, too:

Makes a nice difference on a near stock T2; Doesn't make as much difference (if any at all) if you have a high flowing intercooler or a bigger turbo.

Note: A D-valve setup is not very good if you already have wheelspin issues

I dunno...a dual BB GT series turbo seems like it would spool VERY quickly....*goes off drooling*

Hell, these cars already make too much torque as it stands. Wait until you try the open exhaust. Your gonna spin like crazy. You should be able to spin from a roll in 1st gear

I would have to disagree with that statement, on one account. The turbos that would offer the low lag, are too small overall, and would starve at higher boost (22+ psi) and would starve at higher RPMS. Upgrade to a larger turbo, and you still almost have the same lag. The only turbo that seems like it could do the job is the GT3071R, however it is untested on our cars. The GT30R is a drag only doesnt have much better lag.

The wheels are way more efficent then the old ones. If you could get a custom unit with just a GT style wheel, you would have a decent turbo.

LOL... THAT'S the TRUTH!!! You will get to a point where you REALLY REALLY want a little lag. (however instant tirespin at 40-50mph (or more) can be fun)

What makes the GT30R a drag only turbo? Why is the GT3071F better? I've been looking at both these turbos for my cars.

The GT30R is a laggy, but when it comes on, it comes on hard. The GT3071R is a similar turbo, however runs a smaller wheel and a different turbine. The turbine on the GT3071R is smaller and is internally wastegated.

I would beware on the Gt3071R because of mating to our flanges. Plus I think ATP is made up from a bunch of idiots. As for my comment about the GT30R being drag race only is just my feelings on it. I think they are too small for a 8v 2.2 and almost for a 8v 2.5L. Per some peoples thinking, you will be hard pressed to make 500chp. If you do a search, there is someone with a Daytona 2.2 that is running the GT30R, so you may want to contact him and Chris Wright at TU.

I talked with Chris at Carlisle when these turbos first came on the market. I can tell you that when I do my Über motor it will have a DBB GT turbo on it. There are a lot of combos that can be achieved with those turbo's. Chris and I both stand on the same gorund as far as seeing bennefits with them...in a drag race situation with an automatic tranny, there is going to be virtually NO difference, but for a road race or autocross car there will be a significant difference. I know he can shed more light on this(plus I've been up for 32 hours straight now), but IMHO the GT turbos are money well spent....
