The TII from the van is most likely has a chewed up turbine wheel from when I cracked a piston. Would it be possible to swap just the turbine wheel from an old TI I have, or would the entire center section have to be changed over?

Would a chunk of piston going through the turbine wheel do anything to the turbo other than just chew up the blades?

the turbine is actually pretty resilient, a bit of mostly melted aluminum probably wont do anything to it. if a chunk of ring makes it through then thats a different story...
take the turbine housing off and examine it, any damage will be quite apparent.
i dont know enough about the TI and TII turbo differences to be able to say if anything will swap.

It is the same wheel, but when the new one is put on, it will need to be rebalanced.

Ok...that's what I wanted to know. Thanks. I'll check, and if it is busted, I'll just swap center sections.

Thanks.

Bullshit, lol! That hard piston can do lots of damage, I got one messed up turbine wheel from a couple pistons letting go. There is no room for the chunks to go and when they get flung in there at 100,000 rpm, they make a mess. BTW, the rings were intact. I inspected my turbo without taking off the turbine hsg and saw two little corners taken off a couple of blades as thats all you can see looking in. After the turbo blew up, I took it apart and the damage to the lower blades was unbelievable, they were totally fubared. If anyone wants pics, I can post them.

balancing is just a rip, if you take care in disassembly and match mark everything, what good is it to balance at 25.000 when were spinning to 150.000

Yeah, cause we all know how everything is always right! He wanted to use his original compressor wheel and his used turbine wheel and shaft. He would have to have that balanced.

Ok, will take and post pics of my turbine wheel,

arghh, why the continuing discussion about balancing. have you ever rebuilt a turbo? have you ever read a book on turbos? have you ever assembled a turbo from 2 or more other turbos?
I have. and i can say with complete accuracy that a turbo does not need rebalanced, EVER, unless it has taken damage and is using new UNBALANCED parts (turbine or compressor wheel).
and yeah, i was just saying that its possible the turbine isnt damaged. probably not likely, but possible. take it apart and look at it before throwing some money at it is all.

Holy shit, yes and yes, no. But anyhow, it looks like he asks if he can use a T1 turbine and his TII comp wheel. If this is so, then he has to have it rebalanced. If he used both items off the T1 turbo, then no, he's ok. Relax people.

How do you figure his turbine is unlikely damaged?
