What's necessary to bolt up a GarretT3 (from Spirit R/T) to the SoHC exhaust manifold

Hi!

I have a rebuilt Garret Turbo 3 off of a Spirit R/T - I am wanting to install this onto my 89 2.5 Turbo 1 motor. I was told the flanges for the exhaust manifolds were different and that it would not bolt up. Is this correct?

What do I need to do to bolt this beast on?

I'm pretty sure the garrett off of a 16v car has a standard t3 flange while the garrett off of an 8v car has a Chrysler specific flange. The least expensive way to deal with this is just to drill and tap your exhaust manifold for the right bolt pattern. Another option would be to buy an aftermarket header with the correct pattern.

Another possibility is to have a 1" flange made that bolts up to your manifold and then has the standard T3 flange bolt pattern and have the studs on the top of this to bolt the turbo to. The one that goes to the manifold would have to use bolts and have holes recessed so you could bolt it down. An adapter like this would be fairly easy to make on a mill.

I made a plate out of 1/2 inch thick steel, used one of the existing studs to locate the turbo then redrilled for the T3 flange. I had to grind the manifold outlet lower but other than that, works great and in the process, I think I improved the flow substantially, lol!
