Recently the turbo is quiet, I put thick oil in it and it no longer smokes, and it seems to drive fine, minus the boost of the turbo. Is this causing any further harm to the engine?

Youll definetly want to hook up an air filter directly to your throttle body.. Engine will have a a lil bit of a hard time sucking through a turbo thats not working.

I'd say that if any damage was going to be done, it would be done by now. When the bearings go in a turbo, often it allows the compressor to contact the housing which will shave off bits of metal and send them through the engine. This can't be good for things, but if your turbo has already gotten bad enough to sieze up, then I doubt it's doing any further harm. I'd definately take Timmay's advice and hook a filter to the throttlebody especially if the turbo is still trying to spin, that way you'll avoid any more metal shavings going through your engine.

Your fuel mileage went down? I have two friends with blown turbos and there fuel economy litteraly doubled! NO boost, no fuel enrichment-less fuel used.

At WOT, the computer doesn't care if you have boost or not, it's going to flood the engine with fuel and back off the timing in preparation for boost. At least, that's how my '85 SC used to work. Maybe they fixed that in later years (SMEC and newer) but I doubt it.

Wrong again. There are different table for WOT without boost, thats why the MAP sensor. IF that was the case, if the turbo went south, the motor wouldn't last a week with all that fuel washing the rings down. Ask Paul if you don't believe me,

Sorry, just paranoid about everyone gangin up on me again over "misinformation".. Still feel the burn of the permabanned account. I have actually read about people having to zener diode the TPS to keep the computer from going into open loop at WOT and flooding the engine/retarding the timing. It was WAY WAY back in the teamomni archives.. Might even be some mention of it on TheDodgeGarage, I think I remember reading it there.
