I'm looking to upgrade the t2 turbo. And I've been gathering info and learning about turbos. I've been thinking S70. I know I will be getting the .63 exhaust turbine (not sure about stage 1 wheel or not). Now t2, S60 and S70 all use the stock t2 compressor housing just with a larger wheel correct? Does the stock t2 compressor housing get modified in any way to fit larger wheels or is it simply remove the cover and put on a larger wheel? I've also heard of putting in t4 compressor wheels in the stock t2 compressor cover. Would this provide more power than a S70? I'm thinking that a t4 compressor cover may be overkill (as well as more modifications). I am also wondering.... What would you need to build your own S70? A t2 turbo, larger S70 compressor wheel, .63 exhaust housing with larger exhaust housing wheel? That's it? Thanks guys.

yes, the compressor cover for the s-60/70 wheel is machined. same for the t4 wheels.
the t4 46 trim wheel is good to about 350 hp, which is a little more than the s-70. im pretty sure they can put the t4 50 trim in the stock cover as well, good for about 390-400. but im sure thats pretty hot air at those levels for a big wheel in a small cover.
i didnt mind the stage 2 wheel in the .63 housing in my tona at all, but i wouldnt go larger, at least not on a 2.2
im trying to justify the full t4 cover as well, if i buy the tu header it wont leave much $ for a turbo. lol and i cant see welding 90's on the cover, or shaving the head... hmmmmmmm

By his sig he has a 2.5, stage 2 wheel is no problem unless you don't like a little lag...you should have full boost around 3500 RPM.
The T4 wheel just isn't the best idea, yes it can make more power but you better have a spearco intercooler to keep up with the hot air it dishes out.

Along with the things listed, for the S70 you will also need a machined backplate because the exducer is bigger....but for the S60 you can keep the stock backplate as the exducer is the same only the inducer is bigger.
My goal is 300 WHP with my S70/.63 stage 1, the turbo itself is PLENTY capable.

I wish I knew, don't have it back together yet. I haven't gotten my head back from porting yet or else it would be up and running already. But from my much research and picking a lot of people's brains I gather I'll have full boost around 3500 RPM which I don't think is that bad. I cannot wait to get this back together!

oh, i thought you had the engine out. i am looking at a empty engine bay and a interior that has no guages and no stick shift in it yet.

Nope, just a shortblock sitting in there begging for a ported G head LOL
I finished up replacing the broken piston (in frame) and bolted the pan back on the other week, just waiting for the head.
