Two questions here...(1. My Dad has a garret(.48 A/R) on his van, and we did a test of how long it would take to spool...we were at a dead stop and he just punched it, no brake torque, just idle...it took 5-6 seconds to get to 0 PSI....is everyone's Garret like this? Or is it just his setup? Which is a 2 1/2" exhaust with a 2.25" SV, with a TII intercooler.

Question 2...Are there 2 different sized Garrets used on our cars? I know I've seen an A/R ratio .48 and I think I've seen a .52 on the other van....not sure.

Thanks,

-Bryan

Doesn't the computer go to slightly rich lookup tables at WOT rather than examine its sensors and calculate necessary fuel? My understanding is that the richer the mixure, the cooler your exaust temps. It makes sense to me that cooler exaust temps would take longer to spool the turbine. But I am guessing really. Does someone who knows more about the stock Garretts than I do have an idea, because I am curious about this too.

I think you should go to 0 imediatly when you mash the gas. Thats when the throttle plate opens widest and the intake should go imediatly from 15 or 20 vac to -0-.

Nope, my stock TII garret doesn't take that long to get to 0psi, but I have a stick.

I would have to say that its his setup because I had a super 70 with .48 A/R turbine on my old shelby and it went to 0 psi almost instantly then slowly crept up.

What would be the fault on this setup then?

Cam timing?? What are you using for boost control? This is way off.. I imagine the van has a 2.5L in it. IF nothing in the exhaust is plugged, cam timing is right and the wastegate is being controlled properly.. by 3-5 seconds you should be at full boost.

+1

My Garrett will go to "0" instantly upon WOT... then boost climbs quickly... probably takes only 2-3 seconds for me to hit 15psi.
