Well guys, I got a little tired of the Grainger valve and ended up getting an old style Greddy Profec B still brand new in the box so I can see if I can steady the boost a little and have control inside the car. Just got it installed and threw some TrackTek TT101 race fuel in the empty tank to drive it tomorrow and see how well this unit will work (the fuel is for just plain fun ). I'll see if the knock will go away at 20 psi, and ofcoarse see how much boost I can get with that fuel since it available so close to me.

Anyone else ever run the Profec B or any other controller? The used Profec A I got from a friend didn't like the car at all!

Is that like a fuel additive? From what I have seen, additives dont get rid of knock, 110 octane or such fuel as that will eliminate knock.

No, not an additive. It's race fuel. 101 octane and judging by this morning's drive, it's working real good at 20 psi. Raised the advance at 20 psi gradually to 4 degrees higher than where it was resulting in a little more power (visually seen by accelerometer readings and no knock yet. I have a trip to the dyno tomorrow for a hour long seassion to see if I can get it tuned in for the race gas and higher boost getting ready for the track time next week. Ofcoarse, the weather is going to change (since I live in Texas) and knock the tune off some.

The Profec B boost controller only controls up to 18 psi :
I didn't find that info when researching. I will try to use a 0.020" orafice from by manual boost controller to install on the pressure line at the new controller to see if I can fake it out and raise the controlled boost.

Get an adjustable wastegate actuator, or make yours adjustable, or shim your WGA with some washers. That should raise the adjustability of the unit.

I already have the new Garrett adjustable wastegate from TU. I think I put some pretty good tension on it already from messing around with it before.
I'm going to pull the line from the wastegate and see if I get anymore boost, it may not be the controller. May need to unplug the 2.5" exhaust and drop the downpipe off the cat.

Is your car still doing well with the S60 cal??

When I took the vacuum line off the wastegate today I found that only around 22 psi is all I was getting. I adjusted the wastegate a little tighter and the Profec holds the boost pretty good at 20 psi. After the adjustment, I didn't want to try the wastegate without the vacuum line because when it hit 22 psi in 2nd gear (auto) at 5000 RPM's I got one hell of a backfire through the exhaust. That is the second time it has happened, but this time it was while the race gas was in the tank and data loggs show that the A/F was around 11.3:1 so it would seem that being lean wasn't the problem.
I gave it a tune up and checked the plugs after the backfire, no appearent problem was visible. Except for the fact that oil is still getting in the 3rd and 4th cylinder from the turbo pushing oil out on the compressor side and traveling through the intake and draining into the closest cylinders. That has been aggrevating that piss out of me since I installed the new turbo only a few months ago. Looks like a misfire just waiting to happen. Ready for the dyno tomorrow!

Anyway, I digress. The Profec B keeps the boost pretty damn solid when things are right and is adjustable on the fly.
