Can someone please tell me exactly what the wastegate solenoid does for a 1986 lancer es turbo engine? I believe the wastegate solenoid to be causing a problem i am having. You warm the car up and go for a drive and get it nice and hot, then you shut it down and restart it say 10-15 minutes later and it runs like absolute crap, almost like its bogging down, vibrates and shudders really bad. Any ideas? answers? Thanks !

it should be on the passengerside front fender, about 4 solonids should be right before the strut tower with a vume line going in the top and out the bottom of each one.

had a problem with my wastegate solenoid some time back, but the symptoms were different. sure fire way to see if it's the problem - replace it with a grainger.

yeah,i was definately thinking about doing the g valve thing instead of replacing something, but i definately know the solenoid is bad( used a scan tool at school and not even a click! every other solenoid in the bank worked correctly and returned no codes at all. thing is this car already had the wastegate threaded rod thing(wastegate actuator arm?) meesed with, they put a hex nut piece in the middle to adjust the length of the arm......What exactly would that do? and can i still run a grainger like this? just gotta get my boost and a/f gauge

that's an adjustable wastegate can, so that you can increase the tension on the wastegate and the maximum boost pressure. don't mess with that for now. you can certainly use the grainger with that. you don't need to wait for the gauges to start using it, just be conservative - set it for low boost, crank it in all the way. tweak it when you get the gauges.
