Thats an insanely lopsided turbo, the turbine is such a cork it's ridiculous. What stage wheel is in the turbine anyway? You are gonna be limited to around 300 WHP and expect loads of compressor surge in part throttle situations.

The boost is a complex issue. Its almost impossible to say, throw in a bad intercooler or corked up head and you could only muster 20 psi?

What are your goals?

I agree with Matt, .48 hsg, thing must choke at higher rpm?

If it has a stock turbine wheel, whoever sold it to him should be shot to sell such a stupid turbo.
My suggestion bolt on a .63 turbine no matter what stage wheel it has and it should be a bolt on 30+ HP and lessen compressor surge with the stock turbine wheel. Even with the .63 turbine stock wheel the turbine side is gonna be a little restrictive for such a large compressor wheel. If it has stage 2 or 3 wheel you should not have issues with surge withe the .63 turbine.

What is the rest of your setup? If it's a stock head you shouldn't even bother with the 57 trim at all, there's no point the engine can't take it.

well the turbo i got for free with the car i bought. but he just told me that it was a stock turbo . he said he bought some kit to convert it over to the t4 compressor housing with a 57 trim compressor wheel.
my set-up as of now
2.2 forged bottom end
mopar big valve head
super 60 cam
ported t2 2 piece intake
52mm tb
ported t2 exhaust manifold
3in exhaust
+20 injectors
fuel cell
viper fuel pump
adj. fpr
glh stage 2 computer
power stroke intercooler
this is all in a 87 charger. has nothing but one seat and a dash for looks.my plans are to get a TU CAL 3bar map , +40s or maybe bigger but i wanted to figure out what this turbo is good for . i was thinking of buying a .63 ar housing and wheel . but i dont know if it is worth it or if i should just go ahead and get somthing bigger . i dunno any suggestions please.

Can you get a pic of this turbo and post it? 57 trim TO4E is just about the largest turbo you can use on these cars!
Get a shot of the compressor housing straight on so it shows the wheel, and get a shot of the turbine housing showing the wheel also.

Ummm if you say so (hehehe.. I know a few cars swapping to a much bigger turbo)

The mopar big valve head is not all that great. Not bad, but not great. Definately lose the .48 a/r trubine housing. it will be the cork. For a 2.2 8v, the 57 trim is not a good match. You will have some compressor surge. but livable.

It should support up to 400 whp... Just not as well as a 50 trim would.

Stage II wheel for the .63 A/r and a 2.2L. Stage III for a 2.5L

The MP big valve is an improvement over stock. Just not what everyone thinks. The valving is great, The portwork is minimal at best. It can be re-worked and make big improvements.

Hold the phone here...you cannot just buy a different stage housing if you don't have that stage wheel. You first have to find out what wheel you have in there, than you can purchase the .63 housing. I'm willing to bet the stock turbine wheel is in there though, which even with the .63 housing is gonna be wrong with a 57 trim compressor side.

What do you mean by this? The 57 trim is larger than a 50 trim why would it not support 400 WHP as well as a 50 trim? And beside getting into modern garrett GT turbos and such what turbo is larger than a 57 trim for our cars?

I think that there are a couple of turbo ford guys with 8v heads runing a 60-1 turbo on a 2.3. I am sure that there is one of our own doing the same.
