There's more load on the engine in higher gears so it produces more exhaust. Which of course spins the turbo harder, and produces a little more boost.

so this is normal then?? it just seemed weird to me.

so i should tune the car so it wont hit cutout in 5th then. my factory boost guage is messed so i cant reliably tell what boost levels im at other than when it hits cutout....

Yea, it is normal to hit cutout in 5th gear only. You could turn the boost down a little bit, or put a diode/cutout eliminator on it.

You could also try porting the wastegate if you ever have the turbo off. That should help it to flow a little better and release some of that excess pressure thats building up.

You see the creep more in the higher gears because the RPMs are lower and stay lower so the IC has less of a pressure drop.

Yeah, just happened to me. I was hitting cutout in 4th gear (never got going fast enough to get into 5th gear and boost), and it turned out I was hitting overboost. I retarded my grainger just a 1/2 turn and it seems to work great now.

still happening to me in 3rd and up...(see post: just an idea...) my dsbc is set at about 16psi so it wont hit 18 when it creeps in 1st and 2nd. in 3rd and up around 4000 it hits 16 holds untill 4500-4600 then all of the sudden it's like a second turbo spooling and then wham! hold on! I'm tired of messing with it, and i've got a few diodes on the way. had to order minimun of 5 so if anyone needs one lemme know... they're 4.7v not 4.3v I've got a S5 cal. and 3bar so I don't know for sure if they'll work on stock or less than S5 cals. From what I've read 4.5v is cutout on stock cals. not positive on that either tho...

I've used 4.7volts Zener diodes on both stock and MP cals. Some stock cals will handle it, especially the 88-89 SMECS. I'm pretty sure the 87 modules won't take a 4.7, as my CSX hits cutout at around 13.5psi.

Why do you need a zener if you have a stage 5 cal and a 3 bar map?

Don't the stage 5 cals have cutout around 18-20psi? If that's the case, send it back and have it reworked so it doesn't have overboost shutdown anymore. It's simple to change if you have the equipment.

I need the zener to keep from cutting out when it creeps... I guess I don't understand what you don't understand... It ramps to 16psi (I set the BC to 16) but then it creeps past it until it hits cutout at 18psi at 4500rpm. I can rev this thing to 7000 all day long in 1st and 2nd with no problem.
ps kreiger I don't want to be without the ecu for months...

It would be best to actually get rid of the cutout. If you put the zener in, he cal won't be able to see boost over that 14.xx psi and you won't get any fuel supplied for anything over that.
So either get overboost removed/raised, use a bleed type cutout raiser, or see if you can find a diode that allows enough voltage for the computer to see 18 psi (or close to it)

If I was you I'd get the cal re-done and/or get a bigger wastegate and be done with it
