Heh, get outta my head
I've always heard that "some" in/out play is ok, but any side to side play is grounds for rebuild/replacement... Quit grinning...

If I remember correctly, the In/Out play on a turbo is the main factor. In/out play is worse than side to side. I think that once the bearing fills with oil, the side to side play is somewhat elminiated. Anyone know forsure??

After reading further, Raymont is right, I had it backwards.
And, I need a new turbo since I have both.

My mitsu is tighter than anythng, but my dad's Garrett has a little more side to side play. You think it's because he's running 18psi and I 9psi?

To much shaft play will make you go blind.

So my Garret T03 only has some side to side play. No in and out. I should be ok for a while? Did not want to rebuild yet, since I do not have the money for what I want.

"some" is kind of vague, but basically....just knwo that that turbo is spinning upwards of 150,000 rpm....if it wiggles much its not good, use your judgement....if someone knows actual numbers maybe they can tell you for sure, but ive always just kinda guessed...you dont want "much" but "some" is ok....im sure that clears things up a lot...

Been there, done that. Only it happened to the exhaust turbine at somewhere around 18psi.. Got blades embedded through the housing...
